i'm a traditional guitar player i dont want just one
guitar that does it all. if i want to play a acoustic guitar
i'll play an acoustic guitar. anot a guitar that
emulates a acoustic guitar.

I would say yes if you need to have in one guitar all that the VG gives you. You pay for tools that you need without blinking an eye.

If having one guitar that does it all is what you want, then it is.

I played on the other day, and I was impressed with the 12-string, humbucking, and Tele modes. The tunings didn't really matter, since I don't ever change.

Compare this:

American Standard Strat - $1000
MIM Standard Tele - $400
MIC Epiphone Les Paul Standard - $400
MIM Martin 000X1 - $500

That's $2300 total, for four guitars.

Now, I wouldn't buy it, I'd rather have the separate guitars. But for some people, like the travelling singer-songwriter, one guitar and an amp might be all they want to carry.

Not to me because I am old school. Give me a Tele a Strat one Les Paul and one acoustic guitar. Then any others are a plus. Just not into a multi trick pony.

I remember this concept from my Economics classes decades ago. "Worth" is another way of measuring it's utility. It is worth it only to those who find it useful. I have one and I wish it wasn't powered by 4 AA's. However, in doing my research on batteries, I found out that the rechargables I use lose about 3 to 5% of their power each day - that's why they keep dying on me while I play out. I'll be more diligent about charging them up in the future, before I play out. Then, it would be more useful to me and more "worth it".
