I see in the store Solderless Pickups are available, I also see they demoed the Robo Tuner at NAMM. I wont be buying anymore Gibsons because of these features. Sure hope Fender isn't going down that road. I like soldered pickups and no PC boards no Robo Tuners etc.

TOTALLY agree with you on one this one Donny. To me these auto tuners are a stupid idea. Gibson has gone down a road that I certainly won't follow. Another one of those make it easy type things so guitarists never develop a good ear and learn to tune a guitar properly.

Its like all the people with smart phones that cant remember a phone number anymore to me. I can tune a guitar, I play classic rock and its all pretty much in E standard tuning. I have the natural ability learned to string up tune up and be pretty close to pitch. They wont have that.

This is the Fender Tronical... I had to remove this from my 2013 Les Paul and trade it for a set of Grover Rotomatics. Fender should only have this as an add on option.

I'm pretty sure the Tronical for Fender-style headstocks has been around for a few years now. As long as they don't re-brand it "F-Force" I don't believe they would be going down the same path as Gibson, but they may offer it as a factory option.

Not sure about the solderless pickups; maybe that is to support the two "American Deluxe Strat Plus" models that came out last year.

OK good I was interested in a new American Standard and trying to steer clear of PC boards solderless etc etc. Gibson has lost their minds just double checking that Fender didnt.

I have been looking at this model.

If I was gigging in a cover band and needed to use several different tunings during a set, I would consider an auto tune function. But that's really the only situation I could see that I would even consider one.
Quick connect pickups don't bother me in the least. I have no problem soldering, but I can see where being able to change a loaded pickguard without pulling out a solder iron would be selling point for a lot of guys.

Well truth be told if I order this one Im going to pull my brand new Duncan Antiquity Texas Hots and Locking Fender tuners off my old one before I sell it. It will just be an upgrade from a Highway 1 to an American Standard.

I'm definitely not a fan of the Robo Tuners, but I might like the solderless pickups.

I don't mind printed circuit boards.

I guess it wouldn't matter I would probably remove it all anyway. I don't really think I have ever bought a guitar that I didn't completely redo anyway.

Have you tried the Fat 50s yet? They are sweet sounding, versatile, and every pup selector switch position is useful, clean and driven sounds are great.

One disadvantage with solderless pickups is the need for a personality card allowing 3 different wiring options.

Without those special cards pickups won't work.

Blertles considers that feature as a gimmick.

I seen those and I'm not interested in any of their tech. I'm 50 now and regressing in tech. I now play the same Strat Les Paul and Marshall set up with Boss pedals I had when I was 17. It works perfect and sounds better than the other guitar players processors.

On the good side at least they didn't just stick it in every guitar and make us buy it if we wanted it or not. Its on a certain model.

Im pretty sure Im getting the American Standard taking my new Duncan Antiquity Texas Hot pickguard off my Highway 1 and trading with American Standard. I got a new set of Fender locking tuners on it too going to keep.

Well, I don't think that having a quick disconnect on the pickup wiring means you have to have the personality card. That may be how Fender is doing it, but they could be separate features.

No but I will check them out Lou. Im pretty sure I will want to go with my new Seymour Duncan Antiquity Texas Hot setup though, its just simply amazing I was using the Texas Specials before. I used cloth wire a vintage ceramic disc capacitor with vintage taper volume pot. its pretty sweet. Its got the Hendrix, SRV, Blackmore Deep Purple sound pegged. I will probably put the American Standard pickguard over onto Highway 1.
