Alright, I bought a used strat today from a store I trust and I would like to know if it's authentic or not as i've just noticed a few things that bother me - i'm pretty sure it is but i've just got a little niggling doubt.

It plays like a strat, it feels like a strat, it looks like a strat and it sounds like a strat - if I were to judge on how it feels and sounds alone I would say without a shadow of a doubt it was one, it plays/sounds better than my Highway One.

No 'Made In USA' decal anywhere - I know that this is common with the vintage series, the serial # is located on the metal plate on the back, it checks out, the thing that is bugging me is that every site that lists the serial #'s say that the V + 6 digits numbers should have a date on the neck - but there isn't one anywhere as far as I can see.

The Fender decal looks like it's stuck on, can clearly feel the edges of it too - they are very defined - from what i've researched apparently this was normal and lots of vintage strats have decals that have started to peel off as they were not laquered like modern strats.

The poles on the pickups look weird, they ain't flat like every other strat i've played, they're angled.

Here's a couple of pics;

Cheers :)

To see the date on the neck you would have to take the neck off of the body, its underneath.

Decal should be above the finish, this is vintage correct and correct for reissues

The pole pieces are beveled which is correct for a 50s era guitar, 57/62s have beveled edges as you can see here

Thats what an AVRI comes with stock

Everything looks normal to me

Yogi is absolutely correct and your suspicions are unfounded.

Enjoy that guitar -- it looks like a real nice one!
