Hey guys, this is my first post here, but I've been reading around a while, seems thers a pretty helpful community here =)

Which brings me to my predicament.

I was thinking of purchasing a strat as of late mainly from a large inspiration of mine, John Frusciante. Now i was wondering if anyone would be able to help me out with a strat that would most emulate his sound? Im more talknig about the twangy sort of sound from the RHCP song Can't Stop, but jst overall his sound in general.

So if anyone would be able to suggest pickup combinations etc, anything at all that would help it would be very much appreciated.

Im also aware that he uses MIA strats but im wondering if a MIM would cut it? again, thanx for ur help =)

I can tell you 2 of his main strats are 1962 Stratocasters, i would check out the 62 Am Vintage.

One of the most used guitars during recording of RHCP's last few CD's is an orginal 62 Strat that Anthony Kiedis gave John when he rejoined the band

John's sound comes from his fingers . He would sound the same on a squire as a vintage as a custom shop. imo.

I do agree with you Chris that a players sound is determined by their touch...But to answer what kind of guitar does John uses, most of RHCP newer stuff he uses a 62 Strat, he is also used a Gretch White Falcon, and a Jag, and a Les Paul Studio, and 2 50's Martin 000-28's... Now am I saying that this person should go out and get a 62 strat, or a white falcon? No...It is cool to have influences, and want to play the same guitars, but find your own sound, go out and try a number of guitars and find the one that "speaks to you"

If you want a guitar that will look and sound similar to the guitar he plays but at a lower price point, get the MIM Classic 60's Strat... They are gorgeous guitars and you can find them at a great price.

I have had 2 and I love them... very close to MIA quality. You may want to consider changing out the pups.

Also, John F. does not use Strat guitars exclusively. For example, I've seen video footage and pictures of him using semihollow body electrics. I also can tell listening from song to song on the CD's from Californication to present that he's not always using a Strat.

get a mexican strat and get a good amp, the amp will get tone more than guitar... also, just practice his playing, the most expensive guitar will not make you sound any better

Do any of you use a Boss me-50?
Cause I was wondering on how to set up J.F's distortion, I've been doing nothing but listening but I still can't get it right.
