There has to be something else. I saw a video once where they used a tool without to do anything to the neck before. One could fiddle it into the screw-pocket.

I had this topic already in a german forum and i search hard for that vid but i cant find it anymore... I know it sounds hard to believe because the room there is so tiny but it was like that. He fiddled it in somehow and was able to turn freely. There was a curved thing at the end where the "screwdriver" was attached. But the half of a cross screwdriver, not sure how you call that. Too hard to explain for me in english exactly, sorry. I have it my mind though.

I remember one of the 2 guys in there (they showed how to adjust truss rods) sayd something like "Good that these days we have this tool here, before one had to remove the neck to do this". Kinde like that. And then he just inserted that thingy and went away adjusting.

At that time i did not have a Vintage style fretboard so i never saved the vid or cared longer. But now ...

Not all vintage truss rod has "easy " access

January 21 I wrote ;

I never remove the neck , just loossen the four screws a bit and turn the truss rod , tighten the four screw.

Many time I coud use a very slim screw driver like you do on the last photo if truss rod is not to tight

If you have a 3 ply pickguard , it's an easy job to take it off and file a half round notch for easier access to a truss rod . Mine already had a notch, I just made it a little deeper and finished it off with 1200 paper wrapped round a dowel to polish it . Access is easy now , I don't even have to loosen the neck screws as there is half the truss rod screw visible all the time when viewing it from the bridge
Most 60's strats were done like this

(Sorry for the blurry pic)

Yes, the vintage strats have that hole. Mine too.

Tool was like this, just the proportions are a bit off. The bow is there to make room for the neck when turning.
