Hello everyone

Remember that feeling you had when you became Fender owners for the first time? That's exactly how I feel since yesterday! I got myself my very first Fender, an American Deluxe Stratocaster 2005

I am not a good player (yet), but I guess that is not what truly matters when making one of your life dreams become true!

I got it from a well known vintage guitars shop in London, it is supposed to be all original, and its status is MINT. Seriously, no scratches or traces of use, so I am very happy. However, I was wondering if you could help me out with the deal...I have been searching for information about this model, and I haven't found much...I just want to know if everything is ok with it or I have been scammed...I have searched for the serial number, and it confirms that it is an American Deluxe model made in the USA in 2005. But other that that I know nothing...(pickups?). Also, mine doesn't have the S-1 switch... is this normal? Is there any place where I can get the full list of specs? Maybe emailing Fender customer service?

I have to tell you that I am also quite new to this guitar playing world, so take it easy on me please!

Yep we need pics.
The USA deluxe for that year had the s1 and SCN pickups for sure.
It also had the contour heel and the pop in whammy.
There should be a bar code in the neck pickup cavity reflecting the correct part number.

Does the volume control pull out?
According to the service diagram for 2004 it's a pull out pot.

Nah stratmangler sorry to sound contradictory the S1 has an inner push button situated in the centre of the volume pot i.e. the inner plastic can be depressed and it is pretty obvious it is missing in these photos.. :D

Not all S1 equipped guitars had the inner button during the early S1 years.
Some had a pullout volume.
I think by '06 there were no more like that.

It doesn't matter anyway, the point is moot because the guitar is clearly not stock.
Those are definitely not the stock pickups.

Hey sorry again to sound contradictory ... you may be right but I have never seen one. Do you have a photo?
I agree moot point anyway!
That sounds more like the standard push pull pot.
I have have the 2004 frontline and a strat from that vintage and both show the pot with a push centre. :D

Thanks everyone for your quick answers...I really appreciate your help!

How can you tell just from the pics that those are not the stock pickups?

P.S. I am really amazed by how much you know about Fender!

Yep some of the guys here like BMW-KTM and stratmangler are pretty knowledgeable.
Re the pus the stagger of the magnets and they generally have an embossed scn on the cover.
Really it boils down to do you like the current tone of what you have. They may be up market or custom shop pickups.
The S1 adds some great variety but would you use it?
The SCNs are quiet but some say they are a bit on the vanilla side of tone.
Maybe you could mention it to the vendor and get a discount?
You could pull the pickguard but I would iron out any issues with the vendor before doing anything more. Hope that helps.

Somewhere around '04 Fender introduced the SCN pups simultaneously with the S1 switching. Many of the first ones had the pull switch. Very quickly afterward the inner button appeared. As already alluded to, the SCN pups had a depressed embossment with the letters "SCN" on the pup cover. Prior to the SCNs were the Vintage Noiseless pups, which were better than the SCNs if you ask me. Both the VNs and the SCNs had bevelled edges on the pole pieces. The VN bevels were more dramatic than the SCN bevels which were only slight. Also the stagger on the pole heights doesn't look right to me ... for either SCNs or VNs. The pups on this guitar have no bevel and the stagger seems off.
