I bought this off Reverb.com a very weeks ago from someone that had 15+ feedback. I decided to sell it and when I went to check for the inside stamps I became alarmed. The neck logo seems correct and the neck is high quality with Sperzels. There is a smudged spot where the neck date should be and there are no stamps on the body neck pocket. Graphite saddles were installed at some point.

Please help me confirm if I bought a fake, what a great start on a Monday.

I was able to return it, thanks!

He said he lost it but I have bought legit strats before with lost certificates. I was told it was a 1997 which matches the neck plate. I have other guitars so it isn't the end of the world but I was going to sell this one and now it doesn't look like I can.

I wouldn't touch a guitar that's claimed to be a Custom Shop model without a COA!
Custom Shop neck plates can be purchased on Ebay, as can the Custom Shop decals.

Have you tried checking the details through customer services?
consumerrelations@fender.com

For what it's worth I think the guitar is more likely an American Standard from that time, what with the swimming pool rout and the point tremolo bridge and what have you.

You're welcome.
I hope my suspicions are misplaced.
