When I got my Christmas bonus I decided to add another guitar to my very small collection. Headed down to the local guitar store and bought a beautiful 2014 Epi Les Paul Trad Pro. It looked real good and sounded as good as it looked. Only one problem, I just couldn't warm up to the feel of the neck. So I returned it and went with something I know feels good to me.
Meet my new MIM Strat, along with my ugly maroon Tele

And to think I had planned on buying a Nashville Tele next.

Nice. Enjoy the new score. And I don't see anything ugly on that Tele!

That is like saying if you like steak, you can't like chicken and some folks have both a dog and a cat.

I like cats, they're delicious! But, they don't taste like chicken. :(

Believe it or not, this is the first time I've heard that about the pick guard. As soon as I save my nickels for a new set of PUPs the whole body is getting stripped and colored to my liking. I'll be attempting a burst pattern.

Variety? I have 2 strats and 3 Gibsons ( LP and 2 335s). Playing something different pushes me out of my comfort zone and gives me a wider range of tones to choose from.

My post was a bit tongue and cheek... although I do think many people gravitate one way or the other between Fender and Gibson.

I think there are those who have a preference for sure. But I think you would be surprized at how many that play several different. For every SRV or Jimmy page ,there is just as many John Mayer or The Edge types. Personally it depends on the song for me .

Many guitarist use several brands. Most of my favorites did/do. I'm not real good at it, and I have small hands and the LP neck messed with me after getting used to the modern Fender neck.

Tele's are meant to be ugly so that they make Strats look even nicer. :-)

I know what you mean about different guitars, but when you have one or two you really like, wrestling with something else seems such a chore.

Different neck lengths do me in. If you go to grab the fifth fret you want the fifth fret, not the seventh.

And I like the way that you know exactly what tone you are on at a glance even before playing anything.
