Hi Everyone,

I've purchased a late '90s reissue of a '62 Stratocaster in Sherwood Green with rosewood fretboard. I haven't been able to find out much information on the series. The serial number is V115180 and the guitar dater project puts it as American Made but not much else as it provides no more info.

From googling around I think it must be a '98 or '99 if the serial numbers are sequential. I know I can find the neck date by taking off the neck and will do this when I change the strings next time. I've heard these guitars come from the same group as the custom shop but predate it being called that. I've no idea. It's a great guitar, best neck I've ever played, so I'm happy regardless. Just wondering about the specs, pickups and any other general information on the series it comes from.

Thanks!

The "V + six digits" serial number has been in use from the eighties to the oughties, so the only way to date the guitar is (quoted from Fender US instruments product dating pages) "for American Vintage series, check neck date for specific year".

In general, all the AVRI series are the cherries in the cake
(They're not CS made, but still among the best Fender has.)

For specs and such, see e.g. 62RI Review @ egr or email Fender Consumer Relations with the serial number.

The American Vintage Reissue '62 Strat (or AVRI '62 Strat) was not a Custom Shop model, but the AVRI series was consider top of the USA production line models. Basically Fender updated the USA-built reissue line in early 1998, making them closer to the actual vintage models.

I can say that one in Sherwood Green would be from 1998-99; that color was discontinued in 2000. I had a 1999 in that color. I wish I had kept it as I've still not found a Strat I liked as much as that one. I figured I could "just get another" but I'm still looking 14 years after I sold it.

In a word... MAGNIFICIENT !!

From the Vintage lacquered Neck, to the single-ply Pickguard (aka the Buddy Holly pick holder), the CAR Nitro finish, Vintage Tuners, Vintage '57 pickups (all hand-beveled poles), genuine Bone Nut, Vintage G&G Lacquered Tweed case, right down to the .01uf Capacitor, this is about as close as you can come to recreating the original.

Mine also has a Custom Shop CAR Nitro Body which Fender provided under Warranty.

I own 5 Fender Guitars, all of them higher grade than Standard - Am. Deluxe, 'Telebration', Nashville Deluxe, FSR Custom.

But this American Vintage stands head and shoulders above the rest in quality, playability, feel and Tone.

I've had a number of Gold Certified Fender Techs comment that it's nicer than many of the guitars they've seen coming from the Custom Shop !

I have also seen/played several Custom Shop guitars. While all were excellent, none of them have been nicer, and few as nice, as my Am. Vtg.

cheers!
