Hello!

I have been looking around for a second stratocaster, and I stumbled upon this beauty, but the seller has not provided me with a lot of information on the guitar, only that it is dated 1989/1990 (I have included a picture of the headstock with s/n) I have been looking around on the internet, but I was not able to find anything on this specific guitar. It is an American standard, black with a red tortoise? pickguard. I have also included some other pictures, to hopefully assist in identifying.

I am hoping that one of the members here will recognize this specific guitar, or that someone can provide me with a little more information (what kind of neck, pickups, neck radius, neck profile and whether this looks original or not) :)

Thank you in advance,

Marcel

It's an American Standard from circa 1989-1991 with at least a changed pickguard. American Standards only came with the basic 3-ply white pickguard from the factory back then. Since the pickguard has been changed it is possible that the pickups and electronics were also changed.

Regarding the serial number - Fender probably didn't start using the "E9xxxxx" numbers until fairly late in 1989; they could have continued on into early 1991 but most likely it was made during 1990. The only way to know the date for sure is to remove the neck and check the stamps.

So on the specs, I believe that would be an alder body, the neck with 9.5" radius, and C-profile (not all "C"'s are alike...), "American Standard Strat Single Coils" as pickups, and with the TBX tone control - if the electronics are original.

Thank you both very much for your help, it is very much appreciated!

I will contact the seller about the electronics; I personally don't mind the red pickguard, I think it goes great with the guitar, but it explains why I wasn't able to find another guitar like it. I will being trying it out this coming Sunday, so I'm hoping that it will turn out to be a great guitar.

I have never tried a 9.5" radius though, my own strat has a compound radius fretboard, so that will be a new experience for me; and as for the c-profile, I'm hoping for a chunky neck!

Anyways, thanks again, to you both!

Marcel
