Hello,

I own a Mex Fender Buddy Guy Polka Dot Strat, and i want to mod the pickups. I play Capton, Foo Fighters, Maiden, alot of different hard rock. The pickups on the sig strat are mexican crap. Was wondering what the forum has for opinions? I heard the vintage noiseless, and the Dimarzio tone zones are nice. Mostly in the bridge and middle position, single coil. Thanks for any replies.

I have the vintage noiseless on my EC strat; very nice, I like them; I also have the Lace ones that came with my EC installed in my MIM and it sounds liller with no preamp;but that doesn't mean you will.
Many of us have or had pickups we bought that didn't work out. We put them in a drawer; on another axe, gave away or sold them. Nowadays we got craigslist and ebay so that helps.
Bottom line is you are going to have to spend the money and take your chances just like everyone has done before you.
I bought a guitar at the swap meet in hawaii years ago; a hollow body with humbucking pick ups; installing DiMarzio PAFs was a fantastic improvemnt just like Goodyear Eagles would be over bias ply tires; but any major brand of pickup would be better to anyone's ear because the ones that were on there were crap.
Standard MIA pickups would improve your sound; having said that John Forgarty in Creedence Clearwater Revival had Gibsons, Fenders, and Rickenbackers; all played through those Custom amps; at the time Customs sounded like crap; just like Peveys did. The customs had a hollow sound (still do) the peveys speakers hardly moved; but CCR had their pwn sound that gabe the music it's own tone and feel; they made a ton of money but only musicians really appreciate these facts about how the TONE was achived; through crappy amps!
It's really not what the guy s you play with that matter; it's your opinion; but a good pickup should have good highs and lows; midrange too, shouldn't squeal and should have good sustain. It should provide enough signal to the downstream electrics to use; it should sound rich and sweet, full bodied. Now all that is inthe "ear of the beholder" and since you're buying the pickups you are the beholder. Butg there is a baseline and I have done my best to describe it to you.

Good reply. There really is no good way to advise on pickups.

Amps do make a big differance I have had people plug into my AC30 and tell me it was like they were playing a someone else guitar.
