I own the 1965 Vintage strat reissue and have determined that the neck is difficult for me to play to big. I am trying to decide if one of these other two would be better anybody have a suggestion or advice would be appreciated. I live in the boon docks and I have to order my guitars so I cant try them out I have small hands. Thanks for listening any suggestions on what to get out of the Vintage reissues would be appreciated TY.

Scottymac, I own a 56' and have played the 54' and 59', if you are looking for a smaller neck profile you don't want a 54' or 56' they are fat necks, the 59' is the best choice for you IMO, heres a pic of my 56's neck profile. Image

Thanks for your suggestion that's funny That's the one I was going to go with. In a couple of days if all goes well Im so excited. :) I just wanted another opinion cause the 65 that I have was a big surprise how fat that one is! I kept it none the less. I still play it but its a challenge lol the sound is nice from it way better than my standard 2009 strat. That's kind of my work horse. But thanks for the reply! Scott

The '59 is slimmer than the '65.
The '56 is a fair old lump, bigger than the '65.

Have you thought about one of the current American Standards?
They sound great (Fat 50s for the pickups), and have the easy to get to grips with modern C shape neck.
Either that, or swap out the electrics in your current 2009 Standard Strat.

Ya in time I may get a current standard...but I do love the quality and sound Im getting from the 65 it was like night and day! I plug them both into my super reverb and boy the difference. I have thought about swapping out the electrics of the 2009 and still may cause there is a big difference in the sound and tone. I play very aggressively blues stuff. I can only get the Sherwood green one im going with the rosewood 59 one. They only have that one available so Im not really too picky on the color. But it seems this one would be good for blues type stuff. I noticed too that 65 too me is not so warm to me. so im hoping the 59 will be more better there. My 65 is rosewood neck top too. Thanks

Have you considered a '62 RI? Those have the "Slim C" neck profile.

+1. These are no longer being made, so you'd have to find a used one. The '59 might be similar though.

I have owned/played a variety of guitars across the years. My Strats have been my favorites. I presently own five, three of which have decidedly different neck profiles: vintage 'C'; modern V-neck; and the chunckier neck on the 60th Anniv '54/ The other two are the sleek, special V-necks on my Claptons, one of which is the early prototype. The Clapton neck is the only one of its kind in the Fender corral.

I find that these are constantly my go to guitars in terms of comfort playing. I understand your interest in a particular 'vintage' period. The Clapton gives the nod to the '57 Stratocaster, in terms of general design, neck profile and hardware. It's sophistication in electronics with respect to hum-cancelling and mid-boost circuitry is the plus. For someone with a 'small hand' issue, I wish there were a way for you to audition this model to appreciate what I feel would be a plus for you, and exactly what you seek.

Developed after the neck from an old Martin dreadnought acoustic used extensively during the 1970s.

I have no idea about the exact date and place of purchase Eric bought out this jewel which was surely one of the most comfortable Martins ever made.

My latest build was a direct product of your praise of the Clapton V neck, first I bought a 12 y/o Clapton neck and Martian re-fretted it. :)

I did like a soft V, had a Deluxe, have a Jimmie Vaughan, the Clapton carve is a special one. :D

I wonder if someone with large hands would find it as comfortable?

That soft V is Fender's generic V neck. Was noodling with my Deluxe VG [V-neck] which is sizeable but comfortable, and then I picked up the Clapton. Played it for the rest of the day.
It's really my preference.

The thinnest neck I've ever seen/felt is on my 95 MIJ 68 reissue strat.
I have small hands but that is almost too thin, it feels fragile even, which of course it isn't , but it definitely feels different than any other neck.
Anybody who wants a thin neck should check these out.

The important feature of the Clapton neck carve is how it fits in the 'v' between the thumb and index finger. The '57V [for vintage reissue] neck on my Gilmour is basically a vintage 'C' neck and does not offer the same level of comfort. Fender's generic V neck, which is on my Deluxe VG does, but offers more bulk to that part of the hand. The '54 is more towards the shape of the 10/56, a fat V-neck, in mass, but a tad more rounded.

I know the OP was looking at some specific models, and I would agree of the three the 59 is the smallest neck...While the V-neck on my Clapton is the most comfortable (ZZDoc covered that) but the smallest neck I have owned on a Strat would be the MIJ 62 Reissue Domestic Models. Not as easy to find on e-bay, etc., but they have small flat (back side) necks. This may be due to the fact the Japanese people as a whole have small hands and sell better for their home market. Worth the search to find one if small necks are the most important option. The Domestic models, are on par build wise with MIA vintage reissues with the exception of the pickups which seem brighter.

It's the same with the MIJ 68 RI I mentioned, it's just you put in words a lot better than me.
Interesting idea about Japanese having small hands, I think you nailed it.
I wonder if all the models have slimmer necks than fenders made in other countries.

PS
Quality wise they are on par with MIA models, in my case I think better, and after working on the pickup height I feel no need to change pickups.
