Joe Bonamassa playing a Strat seems unusal to me, but you can clearly hear how "quacky" a good middle pickup can be on it's own.

I think that the in-between sounds normally associated with a Strat (positions 2 and 4) are super-dependent on having a great middle pickup.

Sorry for neglecting to mention - there's a tasty solo at about 3:30.

He's a decent background singer too. The boy might have a future!
When playing my Strat with Fat 50's, I probably spend 80% of the time on the middle position.

Great tone!!

Joe is one of the great guitarists of these days, that's for sure, and as a matter of fact he is as good with a strat as with his Lesters.

He's kickin it with the middle pup there!

Oh, and Beth rocks. Love her!

He was playing a Strat before he played a Gibby.

Sounds good. I'm partial to the middle pickup myself...

EC used the middle pup by itself quite a bit. I first learned of his practice several decades ago when I was covering Wonderful Tonight and searched for his tone until I tried some 'verb and the middle pup alone. Afterwards I noticed quite a few of his signature tones were derived using the middle pup.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.
