From a technical point of view you're using that switch to create some sort of a "swell" effect or something similar.

More of a Stutter. Switch breaks the output Signal.
More of a FVFBLAM Switch

Could you achieve the same effect by quickly turning the volume down?

Is that the intended effect?

Love to hear of new techniques, thanks. :D

Fully fascinating
Great to see some creativity getting serious, breaks the 'off the shelf' monotony.

Very nice builds Kruegmeister, with the Switchus Interuptus I see what ya mean, effect not easily achieved on a stock strat circuit, as can a Gibbo.
That Firestorm of Xhefri's would also sound delish with all that Lace lovin' tone goin' on.

Haha, got me Chromeface, three HB's and Tripple Nipples !! And you were serious when you suggested on another post I add a mid humbucker to the HSH. Yeah man, anything's possible with me lol.

No the Volume knob could not cut the volume quick enough, unless you have Jedi Reflexes. The stutter effect (Think Square Wave) is Alternating from Full Signal to Zero Signal rapidly, so the switch simply breaks the output (On Strats, The red wire off the volume pot that goes to the output Jack)
I am actually going to try grounding the output signal instead, I think that would be better electronically speaking.

Here is a Schematic, looks like it's normally called a "Kill Switch" Here they show it grounding the signal, so that's what I'm going to change to, my way would leave some slight ground buzz.

Also found this interesting Mod : Warm-Bright-Warm Switch, 250k in parallel with 200k nets a 111K Volume Pot and the 100K would be like having a 71K ohm Volume Pot, interesting... Gibsons use 500K to brighten up... Future experiment me thinks...

No problem then, I consider the Jedi a little slow,

Okay I see what's going on now! I see were a person could use a Killswitch much like the effect it was on the old super beetle amplifiers which was called "percussion repeat". What it did was acted like an intermittent signal kill in which you could vary the speed. It was kind of a cool effect, a lot different than tremolo on a amp, and I could see I could do that using a small switch, whipping it on and off rapidly could do the same thing. Also thanks for sharing those schematics, the second one looks really interesting using a three-way mini switch for selecting variable tones. That one would be kind of fun to play with using different types of resistors and maybe even capacitor. A Switchus Tonas Excellantus.

A momentary contact switch works best, mounted in the right spot you can tap it with you finger rapidly, cool effect!

Instead of cluttering up the pickguard with switches you could fit a kill pot, similar to that fitted on the Epiphone SG Special.
