Very cool body! This one you just picked up from gibsondependable on eBay. I was watching it as a friend was interested in it. The lines on the back were interesting. I am really looking forward to your build and to a sensible discussion about these super cool guitars! :D Your build is looking GREAT!

I was recently blessed with a rare score. I bought is as close to a new old stock 1990 Firestorm Strat Plus Deluxe. A guy picked it up at a yard sale in Berkley, California, with an original 1967 Fender Super Reverb that was also like new. These both had been siting in storage for years, unused. This Firestorm still has the plastic on the pickguard and the trem cover! Here are few shots.

Way to go...Guitar Porn at it's best...we're all waiting on the Neck to come in...the suspense is killing me!

It's a nice build and very neat wiring...but I see a mini switch on the finished front and no sign of switch on the inside view...added later?

Nice pics too...you lurked a long time and hit a triple on the first pitch.

Fabulous find there Xhefri. :D

Just had a look on the DiMarzio site - I wonder who the Steve referred to is?
My first thought was Steve Morse, but he has signature pickups.

It's killer clean but not Vai or Morse it is actually...
The "Steve" in "Steve's Special" is Steve Blucher of DiMarzio, not Steve Vai.

Yes, I almost screwed the pickguard down and then I remembered I need my Switch for "Nipplin the Switch" something I do from time to time in Leads. My Les Paul's afforded me this with the 2 Volumes, so I implemented this switch into my Strats.

Thanks Xhefri
It was your Original Firestorm posts, which I think I read ended up being a fake, sorry to hear about that. That and Your "This is a highly flamed matchbook Maple top on a chambered Ash Warmoth body" Guitar on your website that were inspirations for my Build. I knew I needed another Alder Guitar with the same Everything I used last time... and with Alder being a Fairly Ugly Wood, I knew this Firestorm Finish would be cool, granted the Pictures as listed on eBay by Gibsondependable had me worried cause the quality was just so-so in the pics, then I read here and on Strat-Talk about fakes and then I was really worried. Luckily I got what was a beautiful Body that has a few nicks and needed a good rub down with some mild polishing compound and some polish.

Great, I have bought several bodies from gibsondependale. He does not always disclose all the issues, but so far most of them have been pretty clean. But forsure what you have is the real deal. I almost was going to buy that one so the guy who bought the fake Firestorm in OZ could use it to replace his fakeo body. What kind of neck you using?????

Xhefri, great shots of the near new example. The way the silver streaks shine through the clear red. Wow.
Nice build Kruegmeister, good to see some civilised discussion.
Goodonyaz ...Mark.

Nice work.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

@Kruegmeister

Methinks the two humbucking puppies do have a push-pull pot in their master volume knob to split the 'buckers.

I tried that on the last build but went back to Standard Pots because I never used it. I was hoping my Split Humbucker would sound like the 4 position on my HSS Strat, but it didn't and I never found a useable tone for my needs with that setup, so I returned to the Standard Pot for Simplicity and Reliability. I mostly use the Bridge for Distorted Parts and Leads. I use the Neck Humbucker for my Clean work and anything Bluesy I want to do, it just suits me best.

I still mess with the Single Coil, but not too often does it make what I wanna hear.

Perhaps you're gonna drop a third full-sized humbucker in the middle position and put an HHH pickguard. You'll need to enlarge the single-coil slot in order to fit the middle humbucker properly.

Well, since the body is routed for HSH, a single coil-sized Chopper/FastTrack 1 & 2 humbucker in the middle would do the trick.

The HHH setup is very nice because you can split and tap the buckers for a wide array of tonal possibilities.

Hey Krueg, what the heck is "Nipplin the Switch"? :?:  :?:

Interrupting the Signal basically... Usually a Full Volume Feeding Back like a Mo and Switching Back and Forth to Zero Volume.
