Subject to how hard you fret you may not be playing on anything at all.

I have a couple of highschool buddies that were weaned on original 3 position switch 62s and Bandmasters. The Strats looked cool, sounded great back then. and played well for the times. I have no doubt they still do, and I'm looking forward to trying out the clones some day, should I be lucky enough to find one locally. When each one of us think of Strats, we likely think of music from or in our youth. For me - it's the '62 (although, others are always welcome ). :)

It's on my bucket list. 8)

Interesting thread to reply in.... does anyone here realize the thread started in 2008 and was recently brought back with a reply???

I have a 62 AVRI, it's a great guitar. Was the first electric guitar I bought when I "got back into it" about 6 or 7 years ago (about the time this thread originated!). After that, I bought an American Standard, a Clapton signature model, and then discovered Mexican Strats (love them too).

Back in the 90s, I had a real 1962 slab board Stratocaster, best guitar I've ever owned. Also had a 1992 AVRI 57 Stratocaster and an American Standard from that era. While my 2008 (I think) 62 AVRI is a fine instrument, the closest I've played to my old 62 in looks, sound and feel is my 2008 (bought NOS 3 years ago) Road Worn 60s Stratocaster. It's phenomenal how much like the originals they are, and IMO they have it over the AVRI (might just be the worn in factor, but it works!).

Now having 11 Stratocasters (4 American including a 2012 AM Std- and 7 MIM, either "Classic Series", Artist or Custom Shop designed Classic Players), many being new (two are new in the last month, both Classic Players of which I have 4), I can say that Fender is now producing some of the finest Stratocasters they ever have (both North and South of the border). Still hard to beat that worn in feeling of the Road Worn series though...

T Bone D:
Thanks, for your terric post and informative insight based on your experience with the various 62's. Your contribution will come in handy, I'm sure.
