quick question everyone...

i am new to this forum and this is my second post (my first is about the mercury magnetics champ 600 mod kit)

but i have been browsing for a few days and realized that although i have heard nothing but pretty positive reviews...not a lot of people have the '62 reissues...if i am wrong please share, but if i am right...why not?

i have had mine now for 6 months (olympic white...soo sick)
(i will post pics eventually in the proper thread)

and anyways...i love it!

is it the cost that makes it not an attractive option...or perhaps is it in the way its configured?

i have a les paul and found the transition to the thinner neck to be hard at first but i have grown much more accustomed to it and now am finding myself preferring it over the thicker les paul necks.

i used to play guitar when i was young...badly i might add then took a loooong hiatus.

last fall i got bored and had some pocket cash burning a hole in my pocket so i developed a guitar habit.

i have a les paul vintage mahogany, an epi casino, martin acoustic, the '62 reissue and am trying to stop myself from getting a DOBRO.

any thoughts on the reissue?
for the life of me i cannot find fault (the hot rod has the "thin skin" and this only has the nitro coat...but still has poly? *still trying to figure that out)

but other than that what would make this not the perfect strat for anyone?

Hello Jarabolos,

If your talking the american vintage '62
I see very few, about 5 months ago
I saw a surf green one, super nice axe.

Finish appears more durable on
the American Vintage '62.

I must admit I,ve been hankering for a
'62 hot rod, they have the very thick neck.
and reverse wound pickups.

Cheers.

I had a AV 62 reissue for about a year and kick myself for selling it. I also had it in olympic white. Just a fantastic guitar. That strat was about as versatile as I could ask for. As far as the price goes, Fender is always bang for your buck. I actually tried a CS 60s relic before settling on the AV 62 reissue and liked the 62 much more than the CS strat.

At the risk of sounding flash, I have two @'62 AVs (green and 3tsb). I got them because I wanted the original style of components (skinny frets, 7,25" rosewood, etc.) and after some years using them, I couldn't be without them. I have other Fenders and Gibsons, but the '62s are my favourites.

i personaly am parshall and i think many are to the 57RI because of the maple neck iam just not as big of a fan or the rosewood as i am the maple that could be reason for lack of PDA for the 62RI

its funny because at first i was never partial to the olympic white

i was a sunburst man myself...but there is something to be said about the combo of faded knobs and pup covers and the mint green pickguard.

i have seen tons of oly white fenders...the american standard...classic players...etc...and to be honest they seem too...i dont know sterile i guess...their whites are too bright...almost offensive!

the white on the '62 reissue is more like a cream
(could just be the combo of faded plastic and mint green pickups...but whatever it is it works)

alot of people reviewing the guitar complained about the skinny frets...but for me at least i have no problems...i have a les paul and had the guitar re-fretted and had some very finished work done to it, but to be honest i like my strat out of the box better for some reason...it just feels more natural...

for the price you can get the john mayer strat and a sleu of other high quality instruments, but in my opinion artist signature models are a waste of time because John Mayer didnt learn how to play on a John Mayer strat
(i think he used an SRV)...I like the idea of having an axe that someone could have bought brand new in 62.

to me any other fender isnt worth its weight when compared to this one (custom shop aside)

ok i rambled enough but i just get excited talking about it.

and im glad that i have some fellow owners here in this thread because im tired of hearing about standards, and mim's and cij's

frankestrats are ok if thats your thing but imo you still cant beat the overall vibe that a 62 posseses!

hey on a side note...is there a more concrete way of dating the serial number on the backplate or do i have to unscrew the neck and take a look?

I've played on a '62 reissue a few times and really liked it. I wasn't crazy about the frets at first, but it was really the cost that was prohibitive for me. I lucked out and found a used American Strat with the 57/62 pickups switched in, so I still get some of that same sound. Have those of you fortunate enough to own a 62 reissue put in a five way switch? I kind of liked the charm of the three way switch, not enough to put a three-way in mine, but you know...

If I had the spare cash, I'd buy one. I like them.
But it's all a matter of taste & finances.

I once picked up a special edition Les Paul in a music store when I was in high school. I loved it, and my Mom asked how much it was, possibly thinking of my birthday or Christmas, but I knew it was more than they could spend on my gift without asking. It was very much to my taste--but too expensive for our finances. And it wouldn't be to everybody's taste either.

So even if they have the cash to spare for any guitar, it may not be to their taste.

to be honest the response to this thread has been a lot more than i imagined!

at least i know there are a handful of like minded individuals out there who appreciate all the '62 reissue offers!

Don't get me wrong, I know that the 62' reissue is a super nice instrumnet, but you asked if any of us saw any faults in them. The only drawback to me would be the lack of convience related to truss rod adjustments. I know thats kinda picky but you asked...

I own one, had it for about 2 years now. Olympic White w/ mint green pg. I love the tone of the guitar, but as my playing style has developed/changed over the past few years. I am not very fond of the small frets, and the 7.25 neck. I feel like I can't dig in. I have been thinking about selling it or trading it. It gets very little PT next to my JM Strat or my AM Dlx. It has become a pretty slick but expensive wall decoration.

The thing with the small frets and 7.25" raduis is that is what an original '62 (would have been like (actually, 7" radius, to be pedantic). The best part of it is that whilst the maple necks look great, the rosewood has a very slightly "darker" tone (the rosewood does that) but in any case rosewood can be oiled, maple cannot. Using a fingerboard oil helps stop wear and makes the fingerboard a bit more supple-feeling. With maple you're just plaing on paint.
