Sorry if this has been asked, I tried to search but can't get a good result.

I want a full humbucker sound in my bridge position without routing the cavity, in another strat I've got a red lace sensor and it's pretty decent but guys in my band still say I need more punch, any suggestions? Is the HS-3 a humbucker?

Thanks

You'll probably get as many different views as there are possible re what type of pickup.
The HS3 is a stacked noiseless. I like the sound of them they are fairly sweet but maybe not that thick humbucker sound.
There are many great Dimarzios to choose from though! :D

You didn't say what kind of guitar it is. Have you lifted the pick-guard yet? It is entirely possible the body is already routed for a humbucker. Even so, as jimmy_james mentioned there are plenty of humbuckers available in a single coil size.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Sorry, it is a Fender Strat :p Also, I have looked under the hood, it is a vintage routing, thanks for the info on the Dimarzios, I'm actually looking for the most similar HB sound in a Single coil encasing. Don't know if the JB Jr. would fit into that category?

In my experience... stacked pups or single coil size mini buckers are not going to give you the same push as a full size bucker.

You really need to go HSH, HH or in the very least, HSS with a full size humbucker(s)

I concur. Part of what gives a pickup its sound quality is the size of the bobbin the wire is wrapped around. Personally, I would go with whatever you like. Don't forget that the caps used in the electronics will effect how dark or bright a pickup sounds. It's an easy and inexpensive mod to make.

Ask a GOOD luthier or get on the web and look around.

I made very good experiences with Seymour Duncan Hotrails:

They are available as "cool rails" and as "hot rails", you may look into the "hot rails" of course. The SHR-1 is probably what you are looking for, since it has the highest output.

Ultimately, only a full-sized humbucker will give you that sound. However....

this pickup is generally regarded as having a tone that is close to a full humbucker. But as is the case with so many other aspects of guitar tone, it is a subjective statement. You might like it......(or it just might not you).
