I feel your pain Drew. :(

How many months has it been?

Now they're sending you a larger capacitor?

When were the Fishman Fluence pickups released?

I'd heard about these for about a year. I think they started shipping them about six months ago. If they needed a special cap, it seems the cap should have been included with the pickup set. Apparently Fishman didn't send out caps and Sigler installed what would be a fairly normal .022mf cap. I hope to move past this teething period soon. I like the singles so much, that I'm thinking of trying the humbuckers in a guitar. I'm a gluton for punishment I guess.

I sent my pick guard back to Sigler for replacing the caps.I hope they test it out before shipping it back.I guess ultimately Fishman is to be blamed.

Hope your pups & controls are working well.I just installed the pick guard after hours of meticulous soldering (takes me a while to get it soldered as I'm not used to this type of work). The tone controls seems to working in all the switch settings except the one on top for the bridge pickup! This happens on both the hot & soft pickup settings that is activated by the tone knob.I wonder who is at fault now ! I wish Sigler had checked the guard before shipping it.I'm not sure how the wiring is supposed to be but is the bridge pup supposed to be controlled by the top tone control which has the push pull ?

Note: On "most" strats, many Mexican, etc., there is "zero" tone control of the bridge pickup. This is just the way it is. It seems counter productive though because I use the bridge pickup, selected individually, probably the most of any pickup on my strats.

The American Standard Strat has tone control of the bridge pickup. This is a great feature that the American Standards have had and it allows for so much more usefulness of the bridge pickup, and eliminates the complaint of many that the bridge pickup sounds "ice picky".

There is a modification you can do to all these strats without the tone control of the bridge pickup. It is called the "bridge tone mod". Type it into Google search and you will get a bunch of sites to go to that describe how to do it. It is very easy to do the bridge tone mod.

There are two main types of "bridge tone mod". The easiest one involves desoldering "one" wire on the five way switch and soldering it onto a different lug of the five way switch. If you do it this way the middle strat pickup has "zero" control of the tone.

The other way is like how the American Standard Strat is. It has tone control of all pickups and all positions of the five way switch have a tone control function of one pickup or a combination of pickups, such as bridge/middle or bridge individually. This mod involves taking a piece of wire about one inch long and soldering one end of this short wire onto one lug and the other end onto another lug.

It is a very easy and quick modification; but it is probably the most useful mod I have ever done, and has produced more tangible results than any other single mod I've ever done. All my strats have the bridge tone mod completed on them.

Therefore, the bridge tone mod should be able to be done with the fluence pickups. I'm not sure, there could be some reason why this won't work but "I doubt it". I am almost positive that the bridge tone mod will work with the fluence pickups just like any other strat pickup set. Move at least one wire on the five way switch, or make the jumper wire from one lug to the other.

Good luck with this, and yes, I agree that having tone control of the bridge pickup independently is something that every strat should have. It's too bad that Fender itself doesn't do it on so many models of their strats. The good thing is that it is easy to do.

I hope this helps some of you guys out.

I haven't had a chance to install the new cap that Sigler sent. I am planning on doing it today.
Duffy, thanks for the info. I'll do some research and possibly do the mod when I change the cap. I hate ice picky bridge pups and wouldn't want to be stuck with one.

Wahla; here's my Am Dlx, as I was installing the Fishman pickguard, with the stock HSS pg on the left. The Fishman 5 way is not wired like the schematics that I saw for doing the tone control mod. But I'm going to make an educated guess and add the jumper wire while I'm changing the cap.
You might notice my Fishman pg has an added mini toggle. That is for what they call the HF Tilt. It is supposed to give you a bright/ not bright option, but I could hear no change. In fact there is a review of these pups in Feb. Guitar Player, and the reviewer noted he could hear no change when adding this in.

Here's a better shot of the pots and 5 way. You'll see that the 5 way has the pickup wires on the opposite side from the schematics I see online for doing the bridge tone mod. Also, the pot wires aren't in the same place as what I see on the schematics for the mod. I'm going to add the jumper from the lower pot to the open lug and see if that gives me tone on the bridge. If the bridge is combined with the middle, that will be okay.

Here's a close up of the 5 way. I'll be jumping from the upper wire (which goes to the lower tone pot), to the empty lug just above it.

Here's the Fishman schematic. You can see the 5 way is wired with the pickup wires on the opposite side of how Fender does it and the pot wires aren't quite the same. I'm going to jump the lower pot with the empty lug, even though they aren't in quite the same position as I see on the diagrams for the bridge tone mod that I found.

Here's a diagram for the bridge tone mod, so you can compare the different wiring. If anyone has any suggestions, please speak up. I'm going to be heating up the solder iron soon.

If I remember correctly you attach the jumper to the lug that has the wire coming from the middle pickup and also attach it to the wire coming from the bridge pickup. Either this or something almost like this. I can't see where it won't work. It seems logical that it would work.

Don't ya hate "options" that don't work? :D

I'm not used to Pups with 7 leads coming out, although the Clapton Mid Boost I installed recently had an extra 6 leads in the control cavity.

Anyway, yours isn't wired like a normal strat except in some basic ways.

From your diagrams, you have to turn the Strat 180 degrees to match the Fluence. Now the Pup leads, on the right side, match the Strat.

Looks like you would add the jumper wire between the 2nd & 3rd lugs on the left side.

But electronics are not my forte. Ask the Fishmen guys what, or if, they think.

Didn't one of you mention that they READ These Forums?

Not the Boss Man apparently. :D

Thanks guys. There's definitely food for though in all that is discussed.I have emailed Sigler & maybe need to check with Fishman if the tone control was supposed to work for the bridge pup or not.
Also my other question would be that by adding the tone control on the bridge pup will it add extra brightness or treble to the tone pup? If it does,it may be well worth it.
Overall I am surprised that Sigler has not made enough research on this issue.Looks like they are pretty busy.
