Hey,
Ive just bought a 2001 MIM Midnight Blue Satin Strat from a colleague. All around its in decent shape and quite easy to play. I feel the tone is a bit thin and want to add some grit to it when its clean and some thicker growls when its pushed by a pedal and I turn up the amp. I tend to play classic rock, blues styled tunes, and I like to play the lead. I have a Blues Jr amp and a Fulltone Catalyst pedal.
Ive been doing research and love what I hear coming from the CS 69's. What other mods should I make to the guitar (change pots? rewire the tone to control a different pick up?) Ive been playing guitar for a good chunk of time but only out of stock guitars. This is the first one I am looking to making an improvement on.
Any suggestions would be great.

In 2006, Fender MIM Strats went to heavier trem block. The newer trem block screws right in like the old one, just bigger. It is a cheap item you get off eBay that is worth doing.

get the 69 custom pups if that is what you want. i have a set and they sound good. i think the bridge without the usa strat tone mod is a bit thin but original wiring is how it was intended. find a .1uf ceramic cap(try newoldsounds.com 100v) they work superb with this set up(screw what other folks say, stay as close to original as possible, it worked then it works now) it's all about what you want not how others think you should sound. i'm only telling you from my experience(28 yrs of playing, what do i know?lol). good luck.

Thanks for the advice. I have ordered the new pieces and now I'll chat with the guitar tech about the wiring.

It can never hurt to put on graphite trees, nut and saddles. There was a night and day difference on my MIM. If you don't want to replace the nut, I'd have your tech check the nut height. If it hasn't been filed down at all by the previous owner, there's probably room to move. Makes chording so much easier when the nut is filed well.
