Doing the AcetoneFinishTest on the exposed white paint would reveal if it is nitro (=previous finish) or poly (= primer).
On one hand, I wouldn't mind at all being wrong on this one, on the other hand the guitar is gorgeous either way so whatever
(I usually prefer maple fretboards for looks, but that dark rosewood fits this Fiesta Red perfectly - even beats the EC looks on those last pics.)

Gorgeous guitar man. The paint is definitely part of the vibe.

Thanks for your help! I've done the acetone test and there is no doubt at all that the Fiesta Red is nitro - it dissolves easily. I've done some scraping in the neck pocket and I've examined the paint damage on the bottom edge. The white (creamy white) layer underneath shows no sign or very little sign of being etched or dissolved by the acetone. I can't see any other layers of paint either between the red and the white, or between the white and the wood of the body. I suppose this could be primer on its own or primer covered with a layer of, say, Olympic White? The worn/damaged area at the bottom edge of the body shows the checking/cracking to go through the Fiesta Red and through the white layer below. Hopefully a couple of photos attached.

Thanks again for any help

One more photo - I've spent a bit more time on the white layer and I'm convinced it's not being etched by the acetone. The Fiesta Red immediately dissolves and leaves a pitted patch - not so with the white. And the check lines/cracks as can be seen in this photo follow through the white paint. I've inspected other areas where the paint has flaked (eg under trem cover on the edge of the routing) and layers of paint follow the same pattern as the neck pocket - no sign of any other paint layer.
Ok. I'm putting my guitar back together now and leaving it in peace!
