Hello -
This is my first post so any help I can get would be greatly appreciated.

I just purchased a 1993 Strat. It is label from the Custom Shop and has the Custom Shop card insert, which names the guitar as a CUSTOM QUILT/INLAY. The case has a small metal tag that says CUSTOM QUILT, LTD.

It is a stunner, no pick guard in order to show off the quilt. One piece.

Im trying to find out more about the guitar. The reverse has what looks like two electronics compartments.

I have seen an image of the exact guitar but it is referred to as the TREE OF LIFE Custom guitar. My insert states that it is one of 21 that were made. The Tree of Life writeups state that there were 29 of those, so now I am really confused as to what I have.

Thanks -

Well you could try contacting fender directly either by phone or email consumerrelations@fender.com
They may not have much info though since it was a while back.
These were sonetimes called a schultzocaster if it is the model I am thinking of...
Good luck and how about some photos? :D

Yes. I have seen that image. It is exactly like mine. However, that one was called TREE OF LIFE and my case says CUSTOM QUILT LTD and the insert card calls it CUSTOM QUILT/INLAY. Also, my insert says 1 of 21 made. The Tree of Life info on the net says 29 of those were made.
Is anyone familiar with the fancier electronics? There are two plastic covers on the reverse.
I would love to be able to read about all the features and history of this guitar. Any help is greatly appreciated.

The one Paris mentioned was a one off and quite different.
I understand Mr Schultz ordered the tree of life std for himself and was so happy he had more made for the Reps.
Not sure where yours fits but maybe another different run.
Beautiful I must say.
The plastic covers are a necessity since there is no front pickguard. :D

You're right. I wish I had seen the pictures first.

I have one of the very cool 1993 Tree of Life Stats. There are a few enigmatic issues that I would like to straighten out. Fender has been helpful but the questions still remain.
The info on the Tree of Life says that 29 were produced.

My issue is that my COA custom shop certificate states Custom Quilt/Inlay Strat and that it is one of 21 that were produced.

Fender confirmed that mine is the real deal. They suggested that it is likely that only 21 were put into distribution and that the other 8 were used for promotion, etc.

They also suggested that the Tree of Life name was something the marketing dept came up with after the fact and that is likely why my certificate reads Custom Quilt/Inlay Strat instead of Tree of Life.

Names will not be posted. Strictly looking for the data. Thank you.

So, I know this is as far as it will go. What I thought would be interesting is to attempt to find as many owners of these beauties and compile the data. Are there any out there with COAs that read Tree of Life? Or are they all Custom Quilt/Inlay Strat? What are the serial numbers? If the COAs for all read as mine does, then are all serial numbers under 21?

I think this would be good for the record especially given the importance of this piece; custom shops first one-piece body.
