I am thinking replacing my SCNs on an Am Deluxe for different pickups .Not too happy with the Scns as I find it muddy & not bright enough.I am looking for fender pickups to do a direct swap wothout complicated wiring & to be able use the S1 switch. Will the N3 s be god enough for the swap. What would happen if I use one of the CS sets? Will I be able to use the S 1 switch?

The S1 doesn't know where and how you wire it, it's just a more versatile switch.
Check here: S1 Switch Explained

I'm usually reluctant to give pickup recommendations (they're so very subjective), but somehow the Vintage Noiseless set sounds like the obvious choice for your "more trebly, easy installation" problem.

Oh, another obvious: you have experimented with different pickup heights, right?

N3 would be ok but why bother since they are not that different from the SCN...
Just watch out for pickups with a RWRP middle since these may cause strange phasing effects with the S1. The SCNs all have the same polarity and from memory are different from the std custom shops so it may be an issue combining cs with scn.
I have wired a few sets and the latest was texas neck, 69 mid and fat 50s bridge using the S1 as well. Very happy! :D

Thanks for the response.Yes I did experiment with pickup height .Are the vintage noiseless any different from N3s? I thought of the N3 option because the current deluxe starts come with them so swapping it up with the SCN may not be too much of work.Do you know if the vintage noiseless will be ok with the S1 switch so i don't loose its capabilities?

Do the pickups you mentioned ( texas neck, 69 mid and fat 50s bridge) all have the same polarity as the SCNs? Are you able to use the S1 with them to its full capability?

The ones I mentioned do not have the same polarity as the SCN so cannot normally be used with the SCNs however they do all have the same polarity as each other so can be successfully used with the S1. i.e. they work well together in combination with the S1.
You can generally tell with a compass or by holding the magnetic poles face to face. Similar ones will repel of course.
Three pickups on at once is pretty rare but available with the S1.
I chose a 69 for the mid for the very reason it is not RWRP. If I had used a RWRP for the mid I would have had issues when using the S1 in certain combinations.
Hope that helps but if you do rewire take some photos so you know where you are if a wire becomes unexpectedly disconnected.
Also note that the HSS version which I did not use is wired differently. :D

Sounds a bit like rocket science to me now ! :) -As I mentioned earlier I would like to just remove the 3 scns & replace it with a new set.Getting the 3 assorted like you did may not be my plan.So can you suggest fender pickup set you know that will be perfect for a simple replacement so I could use with S1? I actually ordered N3s But can change it if there are better options like the Fat 50s or CS pups,if they can work with the same S1 switch with no rewiring needed.Thanks.

Any set that does not have a RWRP middle should be ok e.g. 69s, 54s etc
