Thanks Lenny1716 that is what I had heard and seen but was not sure.
Have you looked inside yours?
:D

No, I have not looked inside mine. I don't have any plans to do so at this time... :) I just enjoy playing it "as is"....

I took the cover off now(finally) and I can confirm the pickups are marked "60".

Has anyone changed their pups on a Commemorative yet?

I've been thinking of going wild and getting a black pickguard...does anyone one know if the Commemorative is a standard pickguard size?

Well thanks for that.
The pdf
http://support.fender.com/service_diagr ... A_SISD.pdf
Indicates a std parchment part number 0991374000 so on that basis any similar series genuine guard should fit. :D

Thanks!

I almost don't wanna put a pickguard on it, it's such a beautiful burst!

Wow! That is one beautiful guitar! The gold hardware "pops" throughout the entire axe...including pickgaurd screws. Congrat's on that one for sure!

P.S.- My OPINION is that a black pickgaurd would take away the appeal that this guitar has with the original mix of overall colors...if it were sitting in MY Studio...I would not change a thing.

Hi!
Sorry, I'm two years late...
But the fact is I just bought a 60th Commemorative, mint condition.
I find the clean sound very pleasant indeed, as everybody said.
They had a clear vintage character, the more prominent I ever found at strat PUPs.

And I agree, the middle pickup is probably the BEST I ever played (and I played really a lot!) by itself. I must say, I’m a middle pickup guy, I always liked their sound, and I always care about them as I care about neck and bridge.

In my opinion, it is outstanding.

Well, the guitar is so beatifull, and plays so well, I doubt anybody would pass it, if one has the chance to buy it.
Really, it is that good.

But, in my humble opinion, the other two pickups aren’t so good, unless you wanna sound like Buddy Holly (maybe). They just don’t go well with drives, for my taste. Lack definition, guts and bass…

I got another 3 strats, that, compared to 6oth Strat, sounded much better with good drives and my Blues Deluxe... My main references are Hendrix, SRV, Gilmour and Knofler, for what my other strats are aimed to sound alike.

I just had to mod my 60th. By just exchanging a full pickguard from another strat, the game was over… I got the sound that my 60th deserved, and now it the best strat I ever played, with a separation between the strings you don’t hear at other guitars.

Two years before, I had a 50th Strat. It was a great guitar, but a litlle too behaved with its original special 54 pickups. I bought a set of Pure Vintage 54, to replace them, and discovered what I think is the BEST set of Fender pickups (I tried every other).
They had the step of sound that was missing at the originals. (hey, Custom Shop 54 aren’t the same… they’re worst than both, and sound less equilibrated when compared)
I had to sell that beauty, but I kept the 54 Pure Vintage. And they are at my 60th now.

At the bridge, I got a True Velvet, that is even a tad better at this position (not others) for my taste and sound.

If anyone cares, I got more to say.

Using 500k pots, I put the 60th PUPs at my older and wise-good-sounding Strat and it delivers at last!!

Now they sound as a real stratocaster as any PUP could. They got the vintage original quac vibe, and become equilibrated, with vey good 2 and 4 positions too.

I'll test this pickguard at the 60th Strat, and let you know, in near future.

Are you saying that the 60th anniversary pickups don't sound good in the 60th anniversary guitar, but the 60th anniversary pickups sound great in another guitar?

I have encountered that phenomena a time or two. Don't ask me to quantify it because I can't. There's no rhyme or reason to it, it just is. I liken the situation to an amp that sounds like crap until a speaker swap, whereupon it sounds great. Then the "crap" speakers are installed in some other amp and they likewise sound great. Yeah I know......it's weird.

One possible explanation: according to that wiring diagram (outdated link on p1) original pots were 250K, on the other guitar the pots are 500K.

Yep. It sounded better on another Strat. It is a issue on an investigation.

What changed:
- 500k pots instead of originals
- the guitar.

I was still unsatisfied with the lack of attack and guts at the bass strings on my 60th, no matter if I tried much more agressive pickups. It was easy a looser for my other two strats (not coll given it cost twice the more expensive Strat I already had...).

Then I atacked the original factory set of floating bridge (one of my other Stras has a Hipshot, so it's the only really stable).
The 60th wasn't delivering guts until I fixed the bridge to body. I used 5 special vintage-like USA springs.
Well, I know some think floating bridges don't affect the sound - I think almost every peace of a guitar do affects the sound. How much it affects is another point, and it does different in every single guitar.

The fact is that cured my 60th.

I put the original pickups back at the 60th, and my heart is in peace again.

Now it sounds great, for MY ears.

I admit, I grew an obsession at quality of sound and I have "my sound ", for standards of quality I developed over 30 years.

I may be wrong, or maybe It was just my guitar. To my ears, it sounds much better now...

Ultimately that's all that matters.

That is very cool, I just wanted to be sure that is what you meant. Goes to show how there is much more to the sound of a guitar than just the pickups. 8)

The same goes for amp/guitar combinations. The same guitar can sound OK with one amp, yet sound fantastic with another amp.

Yes, you're right!
There are infinite combinations, including the little part behind the instrument ; D

As the guy before you said, you got to love how you sound. Cause that will be your sound...

Thank you all for the patience!
