I got the amazing Commemorative Strat not too long ago and it's really nice.

However, being mostly a neck pickup user I'm not too thrilled about the neck pickup. It's a bit darker than I'm used to.

Funny thing is, I absolutely LOVE the middle pickup! I've hardly ever used the middle pickup on Strats before because I just don't like the sound but on the Commemorative it sounds amazing. I'm using the bridge a lot more too than on other Strats.

So I'm wondering if I can swap out just the neck pickup alone? I'd like a more glassier, brighter and chimier(that's a word right..) sounding pickup, for lack of better words.

Any recommendations? And that should be no problem right? Despite the no-load tone control and whatnot?

Thanks!

Hey thanks for the pic. Very nice.
A swap out would be no problem but before you do try experimenting with the height of the pickup.
I have also heard that this model has pickups marked 60 whilst the american vintage 60th has pickups marked 54.
If you do open it up let us know for sure! :D

Fully agree.... before you go swapping pups... try adjusting the one's in there now. Might be all it needs

Definitely try playing with the pickup height first, it worked like a charm for me.

Gorgeous Strat! :D

Definitely try lowering the bass side, or raising the treble side of the pup first.

Changing the stock pickups on the Commemorative might hurt its value.

Well I don't see me selling it :) but in the unlikely event I would always keep the neck pickup and change it back before selling.

But yeah I'll definitely try messing around with the height. I'm just concerned about the volume change since the volume balance between the pickups now is perfect. And I'd hate to adjust the middle and bridge as well to compensate since they sound so good as they are.

That's odd! Fender.com says it's a "Special design 1954" pickup. If I open it up I'll let you know!

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Hi there with regards to the pickup markings there may be no truth to it but you will be able to tell us hopefully.
The 60 may just mean 60th strat rather the 60 pickup since they are meant to be 54s. :D

I have one like the one in the picture, which is the 60th Anniversary Commemorative, having the gold hardware, the pups should be identified with the 60, whereas the 60th Anniversary American Vintage 1954 Stratocaster, having nickle/chrome hardware, the pups should be identified 54..

Pickup height is a good thing to change. You might also look at the tone pots and (or) capacitors.

Thanks Lenny1716 that is what I had heard and seen but was not sure.
Have you looked inside yours?
They are 54s I think but marked 60 for the 60th correct?
I know the Am vintage 60th does has pus marked 54... wonder if they are the same just marked differently...or are they completely different.
I know the Am Vintage has the rounded pickup covers. :D
