I was looking around ebay this morning and I caught sight of these, "Clapton Strat."

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1998-1999-FENDE ... RTM1963929

http://www.ebay.com/itm/2003-Fender-Eri ... RTM1963931

I've got some reservations about these guitars.

This late 1990s pewter EC Strat has been modified.

Bridge saddles are not stock for a Clapton, ditto for the pickguard.

Someone swapped the original Fender Gold Lace Sensors for a set of Lace Holy Grails.

Agreed - the first one has been modified as chromeface says. It is also missing the appropriate tweed case.

The second one looks okay; that candy green has a wide variance of shade. I think this is just the case of one that was on the lighter side to begin with being shot with a very harsh digital flash (probably a cellphone photo). Aside from the large ding and the wrong Fender strap being included.

Yeah the green one is more appealing. The pewter ahs been modified. You can buy new ones for 1700. WTH do people take the neck off? It's never going back on the same way with all that screw damage lol. Buy a new one - they're great.

I like how they describe the green one as "near mint" and has a sizeable ding on the body. To me near mint would be flawless except for some light buckle rash on the back or something there about.

If Paris posts a Clapton guitar for 'eyes on', you know there's either something amiss or something one should not miss. There's absolutely nothing compelling about these guitars, and certainly not at the price. Dealer would do better to find himself a mint, original 7Up Green model. Who ever at Fender dreamed up that new dye lot has serious color vision issues. Ufff!!!! :?

ZZDoc - I've seen two versions of Candy Green in my life. One that has a warmers hue to it (like mine), and one that has a slightly cooler hue to it. I suspect that has to do with the under coat. The warmer hue seems to have a "gold" look about it, wherre as the cooler version uses silver.

I'm don't know how all the paint stuff works, but it does have something do do with the coats of paint; based on what and how it is applied.

Any thoughts or ideas about this?

The Candy Green Strat with the warmer hue belonged to EC himself; it was set up for slide as opposed to the "Nights Music" guitar and sported a mode switch.

Here's a sleeve shot from an old RollingStone magazine showing Eric cradling that axe in his hands.

That's a great video, but what was up with the suite?

I've always dug Candy Green. I had to order my Clapton Strat. What asked, "What color do you want?" there was only one. I had to wait an extra 30 days due to lack of supply. It was well worth it.

@paris

If you examine the RollingStone leaflet you'll notice EC's Candy Green guitar is same as yours.
