Why are Modern "C" necks everywhere, when I clearly like a fat fat neck??

I need to ditch the Lone Star Strat Modern "C" neck and fit an original Fender "C" or "U" shape.
Looking for "U" or fat "C" shape Stratocaster neck, genuine Fender.
People rave about these thicker necks on Fender Reviews. I'm not the only one freaked out.
How about you other players, do ya care, or just buy it and adapt??

The neck on my VM Tele Custom II is listed as a "C" Shape, and so good, it's a fat back whack of a neck, perfect !!
Twice as much guts than the skinny-ass Modern "C"

I'm falling over guitars here, but this Tele Custom II is my pick up and play, because of the neck. I'm lucky the rest of this Custom II totally rocks anyway.

http://www.fender.com/en-AU/squier/series/vintage-modified/vintage-modified-tele-custom-ii-maple-fingerboard-black/

Are the spec "C" Shape necks consistent in size?
I know Fender make heaps of different "C" necks, I'm talking about neck specs listed as just 'C Shape'. As in the Classic Series '50s Tele, Junkyard Dog Tele, Modern Player Tele Plus, Merle Haggard Tele etc.
Because when I compare the varous 'Modern "C" necks I have, they vary in thickness. See pic.

So where would I get a Fender "C" Shape or "U" shape neck only for a Stratocaster?

Check it out...C Shape in middle. Top and bottom are Modern C but they're different thickness!!

The '56 vintage reissue has a larger neck than the modern C.

You could always have one made by a company like USA Custom Guitars: http://www.usacustomguitars.com/contours.html.

Had a neck made by them for my strat and it feels fantastic. Well worth the price for something I will be playing for the rest of my life.
In fact, my luthier, who I had install a saddle, still talks about how nice the neck felt.

Hey Stratmangler2 the '56 vintage is a nice looker, thick soft V neck. You got one, maybe you want a thinner neck, I'll swap ya :))

Thanks man for that info. USA Custom Guitars are not a bad deal really, totally customise your own neck, and might even go with their own cool headstock logo.

U shape start at.830" with a .090+ taper.
Solid 1 piece rock maple
US-2 headstock
Jumbo frets 6150 in Stainless Steel
10" radius
Black MOP inlays

Like you said, get it right, forever happy!!

Go for it! I've only come to love my neck and strat more and more. Definitely the best guitar I've ever had. Using a set of Bill Lawrence MicroCoil pups on it which are really sweet.

I don't have one.
I've only had a play on one in a music store.
The neck was a fair old lump, and didn't seem to have an obvious "v" to it, but it was too large for my tastes.
Now the '59 RW, that very definitely pushed a few of the right buttons for me :)

My Am Dlx with modern C neck is .830" at the first fret, and .870" at the 12th. So that U shape that you mention isn't any larger at the 1st fret. You should measure the neck you don't like before you order so that you're sure what you are looking for.

Here's another route you could go: http://www.ebay.com/itm/2014-USA-Fender-Stratocaster-JOHN-MAYER-Strat-NECK-TUNERS-Rosewood-Chunky-62-/361121815458?pt=Guitar_Accessories&hash=item5414899ba2

Yeah man, thanks for pointing that out, maybe I should go fatter with this neck.
I can't include the fretboard radius, I can only measure visually from the centre of back curve to edge of fretboard.
So this is how my regular C shape stacks up to my Modern C shape....
Custom II Tele C Shape - 0.750" 19mm to 0.826" 2.1mm - bolder on curve to fretboard
Lonestar Modern C Shape 0.708" 1.8mm to 0.750" 1.9mm - thins sooner on curve to fretboard

The regular C shape has a fatter taper higher up neck.

----------------------

Thanks 'mxvin' I'll go check em out over at the big W.

Good find bro.
THAT neck - 2014 USA Fender Stratocaster JOHN MAYER Strat NECK - SOLD for $629
and a Thick "C" Shape. Perfect... if I wanted a rosewood board.
* If I'm gonna go to this effort, I prefer a fat one piece Strat maple neck, with the original small headstock, higher than 9" radius... It'll be lurking somewhere.
