I own a Clapton Strat. Looking at the photos you presented look correct for a Clapton Strat of this era.

Specifications for a 1996 Clapton Strat should be as follows:
3 gold Lace Sensors (pickups)
vintage bridge
soft "V" Strat neck with "Clapton" signature on headstock
TBX tone pot in first tone knob
Mid-range boost in second tone knob
Vintage style Strat body
Vintage style tuning keys
"Fender" stamped in the neck plate

I hope this helps

Suerte

Did I understand the previous post right, gerryblue, that you say it's a CS Daphne Blue and not an EC Signature..?
(Sorry, I only know very little spanish... )

For a 1996 guitar, I suggest contacting Fender Customer Relations Department; they should be able to help. The serial number is visible in the pics (it points to Signature series, but the original specs would verify it).

Perden me for not speaking Spanish, but the guitar in the photos looks white to me. Also the guitar does not look like a Custom Shop guitar. If it were a Fender Custom model, the Eric Clapton signature would be on the back of the headstock (or atleast the the Custom Shop logo) and the neckplate would have the Custom Shop Logo as well. It would also not have the Fender "50 Anniversary" sticker on the back of the headstock.

The Serial number looks ligit as well as everything else. This is a factory made Clapton Strat.

Here is a picture of my 2000 Clapton Strat.

Hey jmattis, I told him that I had already seen that guitar being sold in local Facebook groups, and I asked the guy about the color, you can see it's a light blue, he said he didn't know what color that was, we all know that isn't an EC artist series color, and I added that the only EC blue is the Custom Shop Ltd Daphne Blue, so I would doubt this is original.

Cheers

The pickguard is not correct for an EC Strat.

Looks like an all-parts guitar assembled from different pieces.

Of all EC signature models only Crash 3 and the 10th Anniversary Antigua Burst came with a regular 3-ply 11-hole pickguard.

Good catch with the pickguard.

I'm a little bit concerned that someone saw fit to "relic" the neck.
The mock cigarette burn looks just as it is - pretend.
The artificial ageing of the headstock face looks awful too.

I think the guitar is made up of a 50th anniversary neck with a fake EC signature decal, plus a few other genuine Fender bits.
It might even be entirely constructed from Fender bits, but I don't think it's what it's made out to be.

This is an interesting one - I can't tell if the pickguard has been replaced with a 3-ply or if that is just a shadow under a badly warped 1-ply. Quite a few folks didn't like how the pickguards on the Claptons warped and replaced them. I do believe the neck is from a 1996 Clapton - complete with the 50th anniversary logo.

My other issue is the color - is it really light blue, or is it some kind of discolored Olympic white - and I believe Olympic white was available on Clapton Strats by 1996.

Still too many red flags on this one from the photos.

I also noticed that the serial number, though having the "SN" for Signature Series 1990s, it has an extra digit.

The case is not original, either.

One sure way to figure this out is to remove the pick guard. If the guitar doesn't have the mid-range boost route, it's totally not ligit.

Beginning to have my doubts, as well. Buyer beware.

The scratchplate on the suspect is 11 hole, when it should be 8.

Good eye on the pickguard screws - I didn't count them; I just looked at the pickguard material itself.

I think the serial number is okay - Fender was using 6-digit serial numbers by 1996 (mixed in with 5-digit numbers); this one is "SN6" followed by 6 digits.

Still way too many red flags.
