I bought a used strat body on ebay described as a Fender MIM I am posting pics I am new and want to relic the body and build a partacaster but I do not want to waste my time with a squier or non Fender body. Can you please help? What I do know is it has a 8 screw pickguard holes drilled also it has 4 very small extra drill holes on the top side of the inside of the neck pocket and on the back side under where the neck plate goes there is a larger hole in the middle of the 4 neck plate screw holes. If this helps I do not know.

Is it a genuine Fender mim? Is it a squier? Is it not even a Fender? The thickness is 1 3/8 i believe also i would think it also is a Vintage 50's reissues of some sort due to the 8 hole pickguard. Please look at pics and help me determine so I can return if not a Fender MIM

Thanks.
FJ

I do not know how to post a pic on here but here is my twitter with the last tweet is the pics

Hi Finisone,

The routing is a giveaway that immediately eliminates a '50s or '60s style MIM or MIA, those all have correct style SSS routing. BTW, there is no such thing as a '50s reissue, and no MIM reissues at all.

You might be right, I thought the same thing, CV, but wasn't sure about the routing. In any event, not a MIM. I believe that the CV are Chinese.

after reviewing a few ebay pages of strat bodies, I'm inclined to believe that one is a Squier.

Some of the Squiers have that routing as well the hole on the back of the heel, none of the Fenders I've seen had that routing, and only the Am bodies had the hole, but it was for a microtilt. the body you have has no microtilt.

Its not a Squier Classic Vibe body,

1). They aren't offered in Black
2). The bridge saddles are wrong
3.) Routing is wrong
4.) Squier CVs have shielding paint

Even though this isn't a CV, there is nothing wrong with using a Squier CV body, especially if you are going to strip the paint and relic it. Squier CV are full size/Fender spec, are non-veneered 2-4 piece Alder bodies just like many Fenders. They are a good base for a modding.

The guy on ebay has agreed to allow me to return. Thanks for the information. I still do not know what it is but this one was not standard size it was thinner.
