This was my intention... I also been using .10s for a while.

But I have to say, after playing with the strings that came with my strat... I felt the thinner strings quite comfortable. In any case, it is very likely I will keep using the .10.

The point is... I bought a guitar in which I won't be able to use .9-.42. And I feel that is... wrong! :)

My Am Deluxe came with 09-42 strings on it, and they were off the guitar within 2 minutes of getting through the door at home :D

Hi, my 2 cents worth, chased similar buzz symptoms in AM Std Tele for ages. Final permanent fix was to tighten loose neck tilt adjust screw. Check git all over , every screw and nut, jack etc to eliminate as source of vibration.

Hope all works out for you, Ross

Sounds to me like you may have stopped the buzzing for now by going to the 10-46 strings, but not because it corrected anything at the nut, but because it may have pulled a little relief into the neck. Still sounds like the truss rod is too tight causing the neck to be too straight or possibly even having a little back bow. I have found very few guitars that work well with a perfectly straight neck as it increased the chance of a buzz due to a slightly high fret. The neck bow is caused by string tension working against the opposing pull of the truss rod. If you like playing with 9-42s you will most likely have to relax the tension on the truss rod. I hope this helps, it took me several years and guitars to figure all this out, but I now enjoy setting up my own guitars and diagnosing problems with any new ones I collect. Hang in there, you got a great axe, get it set up right and enjoy. :D :D :D

Thank you! :)

I don't think the relief is/was the culprit. I have moved a bit the truss rod with both string gauges. At the moment, I am alright with my setup. I have a little amount of relief (prob 0.25mm clearance at the 8th fret). It's low, but if I play softly it's quite OK and there is no noticeable buzz. And I can definitely relax the neck a bit to be able to play a bit harder. In the meantime, I am enjoying the low action all over the neck (coming from the Yamaha Pacifica, this is by far, one of the most noticeable differences).

So yeah... I am experiencing and I think I am getting to a good compromise.

In any case, all the buzz I had (neck and nut) are now gone. I am SURE the nut is not properly cut... but with the thicker strings, this problem is not visible.

In fact, I contacted Fender CS and they are offering to collect my guitar and replace the nut! The problem is... I don't want to be away from my guitar!!! Yeah... it might have some problems, but really I can't imagine not having it close to me!!!! I know... I'm weird! :D

Milcs late to the party I know but the locking tuner stringing method is on the old Fender PDF guide here with pictures about halfway thru.
Might help you get around the obscure clock description by going to this page and checking the guitar manuals
http://www.fender.com/en-NZ/support/art ... s-manuals/
Check out the fender guitar and bass manuals for 2002 and 2003

After watching your video , it looks and sounds like the nut slot for the low E has been cut at the wrong angle
The correct way to have a nut slot cut, is with a VERY shallow angled cut , the cut being ever so slightly wider and deeper at the tuners side , that way the last point of contact with the actual nut and string, will be the edge of the nut at the guitar side

You putting tinfoil under the string and then pressing down on it BEHIND the nut will in effect shift the point of contact completeley to the tuners side , with string in the nut being muffled by the tinfoil, but vibrating in the nut when it is removed , as in my very crude examples here

Some development on my Strat:
The above post was spot on!!!
In fact, the angle in which the string came from the tuner to the saddle was leading to the vibrational noise.
I took the guitar to the shop, he filed the slot of the nut a tiny bit and... voila! Magic... No more noise! :)

Now, after restringing to .10-.46, after setting up the guitar for a while... I finally removed the plastics of the pickguard! And I finally can call it MINE! I could already call it mine... Now I do it passionately!!! :)

Bottom line... I am in love and I have a great playing and sounding guitar!!!
