Hi,

I have this guitar listed for sale and I'm wondering if anyone could help put a year on it and what wood the body is made out of. Also, would the fretboard have had the sanding job done by Fender or do you think that was a previous owner? It originally came with a Dimarzio H2 in the bridge and two single coils. I'm not sure what the single coils were either, would they have been Fender USA SC's? I'm pretty sure the guitar was stock when I bought it.

Hope you can help.

Okay - it's an HRR model with 22 frets and an Floyd Rose Original tremolo. That style of HRR was only made from 1990-1992 or 1993 before they changed the specs a bit. Since it has a Floyd Rose Original then it's from 1991 or later - the earliest ones had Kahler's exact Floyd-licensed bridge called the "Steeler" - before Fender got the rights to distribute the Floyd Rose Original.

I don't believe the original single coils were USA; I think they were whatever Fender was using on the MIJ 50s and 60s style guitars. I believe you were right about the original humbucker being a DiMarzio, but I'm not sure if it was a PAF Pro or something else (I know they used the PAF Pro for the first few years of the USA-made "Floyd Rose Classic" models).

Thanks. I think the Dimarzio is a Super 3. The baseplate of the dimarzio just has H2 stamped on it, that seems to return results for the Super 3 via google so assume that's what it is.

Any idea with regard to the fretboard alteration or the body wood?

Though the HRRs were MIJ, there's an exception: Richie Sambora's customized HRR50 (for which his original signature model is based on) was crafted by FCS master builder Todd Krause.

Methinks Richie played a couple of MIJ HRR50s shortly after quitting the Kramer camp and asked the CS to build a customized one for him.

This guitar was the only American-made HRR model to date.
