New to me ... Neck is dated 1990, Pots are dated 1990, E9 serial. 2 Lace sensors have been replaced the the rest of the soldering looks original to me (I am no expert though).

Why do you think has the neck rout had the date removed? All I think I can tell is that the body was made pre 1997 but I think it is original to the guitar. Any comments? Is there anything about the body which does not look correct for a Strat Plus form 1990?

Thanks for any help ...

all looks right to me.

the modern 2 screw bridge
micro-tilt adjustment
roller nut
the Schaller strap lock buttons
swimming pool pickup routing
whacky trem spring set-up (lack of claw)
locking tuners
block style saddles

The only thing I noticed is the missing circular disk on the neck heel.
the counter-sink is there for it.

I would be inclined to think that there might have been a paper sticker like on the neck in the body pocket that was removed to adjust the neck fit and the stamp was on the sticker. Or it could have just not been stamped when it was made for some reason.

I can't tell if the disk on the heel is missing or if it is just pushed further into the neck heel. That also tends to make me think that a previous owner had some neck fit issues.

The factory would sometimes hit the neck cavity with a router to remove excess paint that's affecting the neck fit.

If an owner wanted better wood-to-wood fit of the neck and body, he might sand off excess paint in the pocket. But he would also remove the paper and lacquer from the neck heel too. He didn't do that, so I'm thinking he didn't sand the pocket either.

If you're worried about the body, it appears to be a period and model correct body. and all the hardware appears to be correct.

I might be missing your question, but the pup routes are period correct. Fender did this from the late '80s until the Amerocan Series came out in about 2000.

It's a device by Hipshot called a Tremsetter

Thanks for all the info .... really helpful.
Does anyone have a comment about the pink wiring? Looks like original soldering but haven't seen this colour before ...
And .... I'm on the look out for 2 lace sensors correct to the guitar (the ones without the recessed "Fender Lace Sensor") ... if anyone has em??

Why do you want to change the pickups? If they are gold sensors, it may be because one of the previous owners had them changed back, or (most likely) they were replaced as the originals may have been faulty.

Either way, this is pretty much your everyday Strat Plus in sunburst.. Replacing these pickups will not alter the value nor sound of your guitar. If it were me, unless it was a hard to find colour, I wouldn't bother personally. But if it ain't broke...

Is it just me or was Fender using the smaller trem blocks on these back then? Shouldn't that be a full size steel block in there?
