My son has been taking guitar lessons for a while and he's just now gotten to the point where he wants to get a nice guitar. Apparently he tried to buy this one, and he said he had it loaded up to buy, but the next day when he got paid and tried to finish buying it, Fender discontinued it:

My son has been having a really hard year in terms of dealing with depression some personal issues with his friends and feeling lonely. I think this was a real kick in the teeth for him, especially giving how it worked out, and that guitar was a goal he was working towards. It really hurt him that his luck was that bad that they stopped selling it the day he was ready to buy it, it sounded like. I would really like to buy this guitar and give it to my son if I can find one. I think it would be a nice break for him if I was able to track one down and give it to him as a gift. He could use a good break and I want to do what I can to give him a boost.
Would you all be willing to help me keep a look out for this guitar and let me know if there's one out there still for sale?
I greatly appreciate the help. I hate to see my son as depressed as he is, he's a hard worker, and the timing on this is such dumb luck, I really want to surprise him with something good.

Click the "Buy It Now" button. Search the available retailers, both local and online. I am sure that you can find one in stock somewhere. You aren't obligated to buy directly from Fender.

I see your dilemma now. I just searched a couple dozen major online retailers, eBay, Craigslist, and couldn't find a single one. :(

Sorry, and happy hunting.

...hopefully he can find an alternate that will do the trick.

Good luck to both of you

I appreciate your sympathy for your son's dillemma.

But are we missing the Big Picture here ?

Your son has progressed to where he wants a 'real' guitar.

The MLB Strats are a Marketing gimmick, nothing more. Nothing different than a similar model Stratocaster.

Which is more important the Logo or the Guitar?

As a Life Lesson, such a dillemma is merely a minor disappointment compared to the challenges he'll face in future.

At any given time, there are no less than 10,000 Stratocasters for sale nationwide.

Take your kid down to a Guitar Shop and select the Strat that feels 'right' to him, then treat him to Lunch and buy him a Reds Pennant !

I'm pretty confident his disappointment will vanish in short order.

cheers!

He's in his early 20's so I don't think he'll care much for a pennant, lol.

But yeah. It's not the end of the world or anything. He's had a rough year, he had a really bad breakup that he's still really upset about, getting back into guitar was something to keep his mind off his troubles. I think he was really set on the guitar because it was really personal to him, music and baseball are his 2 big things. I don't think it would've been as bad of a kick in the pants if it had been long sold out by the time he found it, but the fact that he had it ready to buy and waited an extra day until he got paid to checkout and then it was discontinued, I think it made him feel like nothing could go right for him.

He did end up getting another guitar. He got a nice blue Gibson Les Paul. But I just want really badly to be able to get ahold of one of these so he doesn't feel like everything is going to go wrong for him all the time, because that's been something he's been talking about for months now.

I'm sorry to hear about that. I'm going to venture a guess that your in the Ohio area? If so, keep your eye on Craigslist for it. I'm sure somebody in the area got one and might want to sell it. If not, I would check that site anyway. You might even post a "Want to buy" ad for it. I'm a long time player and former instructor so I can relate to your son's let down. This is the first time I ever saw that guitar, but I'll keep my eyeballs peeled for one.

Why not just go and buy a used MIM Standard Strat and see about having a artist redo that logo on the guitar for you ? Those MLB Strats are only MIM Standards with specialized artwork done on them anyway . I'm sure you could find someone to do a replica of that logo for a reasonable fee.

+1
Could probably buy the used MIM and have the artwork done while possibly saving a couple hundred dollars.

The heart wants what the heart wants. No, it's not the end of the world but I can certainly understand the op wanting to get this as a gift for his son.
