Hi list !

I bought this used American Highway one 2006 model, I soon wanted to switch to a sunburst body and found one American Highway one sunburst body (2011) I bought from ebay .

I trusted the seller that this was a highway one body, it look like any h1 sunburst body I can find on the internet, but I was put off of the weight of the body .
I'm no guitar builder, I've always used pros to fix my guitars, but this time i did the job myself.
At first I thought mabye all strat bodies are this light. When I switched body on my strat I didn't really weigh the body to compare it with the one I swapped out, but I'm pretty sure the one I've swapped out is heavier than the sunburst I'm using now .

I just can't get this out of my head .
Being a noob guitar builder it took me a lot of hours to switch the body so I'm reluctant at dissassembling the body again to weigh them both and compare them, so I'm asking here:

does anybody know about the weight of a strat body, differences in weight, mabye h1's are lighter (?)
Is it normal to have different weight between bodies (?)

regards

Without knowing the actual weight of that body without hardware we'll accept your conclusion. :D

Strat bodies are made of wood and therefore their weight is inconsistent.

To confuse the matter even more, although most are Alder, quite a few are Ash, which is known to have an even wider weight range.

Then there's Pine, Redwood, etc., sometimes of reclaimed wood!

I just bought an Ash body, Fender Vintage Hot Rod 50's, that weighs 3lb 15oz. That's pretty light, but hardly the lightest ever.

There are more expert opinions to be had here, but that's my $.02.

Here's a couple topics on weight:
viewtopic.php?f=2&t=82965
viewtopic.php?f=6&t=95594

As a summary: a Strat weighs anything from a little under 7lbs to a little over 10lbs.

And then, of course, there are the Light Ash Strats and the Heavy Metal Strats...

Thanks for all your replies, I really appreciate it .

I also contacted the ebay seller which told me the body "actually is on the lighter end", and that it is about 3lb 11oz .

Did you take the neck off of the body to make sure that it's actual wood such as alder , etc, and not plywood ? That could be why it feels light. You also want to see if there's a date stamped on the inside of the body. That'll guarantee it's a actual Fender body and not a fake.
