Well... we all know how we like our Guitar Porn around here... And heck... I was kind of board this afternoon.. and decided to snap a few pics of the Strat's...

Although my camera was NOT behaving and wasn't taking the best pics... I went for it anyways.
Meet "Woody" and "Dakini" 8)
Image
"Woody" is my vintage '62 AVRI... and "Dakini" is a recent addition to the Fam... A MIM Blacktop Stratocaster in T-Silver. They never let me down. I gig them both... They always act accordingly... and they both have what we call "Mojo".
1st up is "Woody":

I like the gear, Strat-Slinger 8)

I'll bet the 62 RI sounds especially nice.. the pickups in my Fullerton 57 are my favorite I've ever had.

Woody do sound awesome... straight up old school. She's was badly messed with before I got her... someone swapped out the orifginal pups... and sanded the original finish off too :(
BUT... I fixed her up... The pups in there now are a set of Reed James hand wounds... made to the specs of the late 50's/early 60's era... all vintage correct... gary bottoms... pull back wire... alnico poles. Very nice... I did the hand rubbed finish as well... I like the grain in the Ash... the guitar plays wonderful... sounds amazing... and has a home for good here w/ me.
I love that guitar :D

They are beauties...and very well cared for...especially so for "gigging" guitars.

What did you use for the "hand rubbed" finish on Woody?

Reminds me of a friends guitar finished in Tru-Oil...better known for being used on gun stocks.

Can you give us a little info on the Pups in Dakini?

Thanks for the pics

- Dan

Yes.... I'm super anal when it comes to my gear :D
I keep my guitars well maintained... amps , cables... everything 8)

"Woody" has a WATCO finish... I used their "Teak" oil. They have several types out there... depending on what you're looking for. IMO, It's the best on the market for a hand rubbed finish. I did that about 6... maybe 7 years ago. And "Woody" has had some SERIOUS play time... and still does...

"Dakini's" pups are the stock. I have absolutely no reason to change those out. They're fantastic... True, old school hot wound PAF's... sound like the pups you would find in a vintage Les Paul. Warm.... punchy.... have that "Growl" ya know... sound incredible... good at any setting from crystal clean to all out Gain/OD/Distortion.

The Tele pup in the middle position is awesome as well. If there ever is a pup upgrade... that one perhaps... to a stacked pup... but I really don't see that happening... everything about the guitar is awesome just the way it is.

A note about this Blacktop Stratocaster in general... The guitar has blown me away... the quality is outstanding. Everything about it is great (only exception is the bridge saddles... easy fix... upgarde to the bent steel saddles... but the saddles that come stock aren't all that bad really)... fit... finish... how well it plays... how great it sounds... I was scoping the Special's and the Am-Standards... this guitar won over those.

I've never played a Blacktop, but your comments have me intrigued.
