I'm wondering if anybody has had a chance to compare these two guitars. I know this is a subjective question but I have not found any guitar shops in my area that allow me to compare the two.

I've been very impressed with the CS custom shop NOS strats I've played. Acoustically I think they sound fantastic with warm resonance and a nice sustain that really appeals to me. In fact, I've wanted to purchase one (black with rosewood fretboard) but I have not been able to find one despite hours of online searching (strange as it seems a rather common guitar).

SO, I'm thinking about the American Vintage series. How do they compare? How do they sound acoustically?

I will put it this way, I had a CS 56' NOS in blonde(ash body) for several years, it was a nice strat, it had a 9.5 radius/med jumbo fret neck and I prefer vintage 7.25/vintage frets so I sold it. Really didn't miss it, I've been playing a 2004 mb 50th anniv. 54', and it is a much better strat all around. In april I went into a guitar store to try the new AVRS 60th 54', when I got there they had a new AVRS 56' in blonde(ash body). I picked it up to say "this looks like the CS 56' I sold", but with one strum it was obvious this strat was so much more than the CS I had, it is acoustically alive, booms like a cannon unplugged, the new flash coat lacquer feels much thinner, more like an original 56' than the CS NOS did, these will age naturally like a vintage Fender, the CS NOS really never changed much in the years I owned it, the finish felt thick compared to these. The pickups sound incredible, frets were done perfectly, everything about this AVRS 56' blows away the CS 56' I had. IMHO try these(I played the 54', 56', 59, and 65 that day, they were all wonderful).

Finally found a store that had two American Vintage strats. They were nice and I really liked the thickened rosewood fretboard. Wow. Impressive guitars.
However, while they did sound very good acoustically, they seem to lack that resonance or sustaining ring that the few CS strats I've played had (with the exception of the CS closet classic which did not have it but I was told to stick with the NOS series as they mostly have it).
So, while the AV were very sweet guitars, I'll think I'll aim for a CS...or a CS American Vintage? Drool.
