Hi Everyone,

Newbie to this forum so I appreciate any help you can give. Long story short, due a myriad of reasons I unfortunately need to part with one of my favorite guitars -- a mid to late 80s MIJ double humbucker Strat (no modifications).

I little history: I bought this new in 1988 and it was used as my primary instrument live. Like many here I've had a hard time finding out concrete info on age, value and rarity; obviously I want to make sure I get a fair price but I do not want to take advantage of anyone. In the end if the value isn't much, I'll just hold onto it since I do really like it.

Let me know if these pictures are adequate -- thanks again for any help...

This is a good source for info: MIJ Contemporary/Blackman
Can't point out the specific model you have, probably 27-4200 if it doesn't have the TBX.

The age, based on the serial# and Fender product dating pages: built 1984-1987. Likely it's from the latter section of those years - or has been hanging in the store for long...
(On MIJ's it's E+6 digits, not E+year5+five digits.)

The rarity: you don't see these every day, but they're not rare collector's items, either.

The value: on ebay, somewhere around $250-$500. IMHO, these go for way below what they're worth.

Great -- thanks for link. Don't worry I wasn't expecting to get rich from the sale, just looking for what's fair...

Cool guitar. I'd probably try to get around $350-$400 if I was selling that guitar. Hard to say what you'll get though, the prices on those can vary a lot. A lot of players these days dont like the older hair metal-ish style Strats that Fender was making in the 80's. Btw I 'd use your eBay to sell it, even with all their BS and fees you'll still do better than Craigslist, imo. You'd get offers of like $75-$100 on CL I bet.

In my part of the country it would go for $300-$350 tops. I'm sure it's an awesome sounding Strat but it has 2 big strikes against it; it's a double bucker ( easily changed though ) and the non traditional trm ( not so easily changed ). A nice 3 single pup with traditional trem MIJ could easily fetch $600 or more.

Thanks for additional info, especially the advice about eBay over Craigslist. BTW (no offence taken at all, I promise), what's the downside of the double humbucker setup? Just curious... I'll report back on the price I get for it :-)
