Hey Guys,

Just wanted to drop a post and say hey. I'm a 24 year old, just out of film school, living in Newfoundland. I'm brand new to the both the board and to the world of Fender (more specifically the Stratocaster). I've been playing guitar for about 2 years now and it's been all acoustic. I bought a nice 6 string seagull early last year and have been enjoying it quite a bit. However around fall of last year I started listening to the blues. I don't know how or where, but I started listening to every bit of blues I could get my hands on. Robert Johnson, Albert, Freddie and BB King, Clapton, Hopkins, SRV, Guy, Walker.... I couldn't get enough. That's when I started to take lessons too. While I started learning blues and blues technique on my acoustic, I felt I wasn't being able to *feel it* with an acoustic. That's when I discovered the Strat. Of course I knew about it before, but it wasn't until I started going to the music stores and playing them that I fell in love.

After months of saving up (selling my 360, tons of my comics, furniture, a tv) I've come up with enough for an brand new American Standard (Sienna Sunburst). I'm going to get it tonight. I can't wait!

I look forward to chatting with you all and can't wait start in with applying what I've learned to my new Strat and learning more and more.

If you guys have and tips for a first time Strat player/owner, I'd love to hear it.

Thanks
Andrew (aka Gear)

its good when you can really say you fell in love with a guitar. i have a lonestar (american made) strat and a vintage '71 tele thinline. bot these guitars just hit me when i picked them up. both were unplugged but the feeling was the same. the next thought was "now how am i gonna find a way to make this girl mine?" its been romance ever since.

here is the only piece of advice i would give if i was only allowed to say one thing. and i take it from my father's teachings:

"if you can't feel what your playing, don't play it." bottom line. period.

with that play that thing till the pickups fall out.

That's about the most exciting feeling in the world. Almost as good (or better?) then a new lover. That moment you pick up that guitar and know for sure it has to be yours. That it is perfect, made just for you. Oh man I love that moment.
