I just bought this today and was all excited that i got a great deal. And someone from Harmony Central pointed out this looks to be fake. Could anyone please help in telling me what this is?

The serial number says early 90s, but apprently a bunch of things are off about this that may not make it an early 90s model? I'd just like to know what it is.

Any help would be much appreciated.

No, sorry this is a fake!

Yes there are a "bunch of things wrong".

In the interest of not helping the fakers, I'll point out one thing that is definitive; the twelfth fret dot spacing is wrong.

Fake! :x

BTW, it appears to be a Squier that was used for the ruse.

Fakers already know what they need to. They rely on that the potential buyers don't

There's a wooden plug in the truss rod..? I'm giving that the benefit of the doubt at the moment - there's a slight chance it might be a MIJ.
More pics, please.

This is where it went wrong.

No dude, the plug has been painted. That is not even an American or Japanese neck.

Absolute Squier fake, no ifs, ands or buts.

It ain't a MIA Strat, I agree. And since the price apparently was somewhere around Squier prices, you may be right.
But I can't see the plug painted from that pic, not even if I blow it up to pixels. The plug edges seem to be thicker than Squier plastic.

What might we find in the neck pocket and neck end, under the pickguard..?

I'm not sure the neck is from a Squier.
A little matter of 22 frets on a large headstock neck.

The neck could be one of these http://www.mightymite.com/mm2935-p-86.h ... 4399b0985f

Note the fake serial number, under the finish. The finish was applied after the fake plug was painted in. This is too easy.

Also note the Squier saddles, the Squier pick guard.........

And the MM neck has the correct spacing of the twelfth fret dots, unlike the OP's, and the MM has a distinctively different truss-rod hole color/shape.

Let's see, a 22-fret neck, with large headstock, Squier..........like this one?

Thanks - I'd never seen any 22 fret Squiers until now :D
You got any detailed shots of that one?
It'd be interesting to see the reverse of the headstock.

The Squier Standards and Affinities received a late 1960s large headstock in 1999 when production of the series moved from Korea to Indonesia. Changes such as the 22-fret neck and 2-point pivot bridges occurred in 2002/03.

Few years later Fender shifted their production from Indonesia to China.

Shame not to have questioned before, a big fake indeed, nothing matches for a Fender Strat.
I joined shimmilou, no clues but they are great!
