Hey! I have been playing for about a year now...graduated quickly from a Squire to my newest purchase of a 2004 American Deluxe Strat in Aged Cherry Sunburst. Very nice guitar. I have surfed this site for a while now and have learned a lot from many of you...So thanks! :D

Welcome Chuck, but if you've been lurking around here then you know we like to look at pictures. Hint, hint.

So how do you load a picture? Also I have a marking inside the back cover "70 W" what does that mean??? It is printed in heavy black.

For pictures, you must use a publicly accessible site such as PhotoBucket. Once pics are uploaded to the site, copy the "IMG" link for the pic and paste into your post here. Use the "Preview" button to see the pic after pasting the link.

Congrats on getting a great Strat,I haven't seen any of the markings such as the ones that you describe on the backplates of any Strats.I have an '04 Strat also and there certainly isn't anything like you describe on the backplate,my guess would be that the previous owner put it there as a type of identification that the previous owner put there. The first thing a thief will look for is any identifying names, phone numbers etc. but letters and numbers like this could be dismissed as being some kind of factory code, when in fact the owner probably uses them as part of his security systems.

Maybe refering to the spring cavity where you will often find some numbers written.

Like this, it appears to be 10/64, and some initials below:

I could be wrong but when he said the markings were inside the back cover,I took it to mean that it was written on the plastic back plate.Having 5 Strats of my own,I've seen the lettering inside the cavity under the springs since I bought my old '65 way back in the dark days of 1975-they are in fact factory codes and builder's initials too I believe, exactly what they mean has slipped away from me with the sands of time...lol.
