Great video! Like someone else said, I'd be really keen to see a similar comparison done between Anne and a brand new 60th Anniversary strat, or with a 50's re-issue.
The tones on both of those '54's are amazing but I seem to like Anne's more agressive tone more.
I was a bit puzzled when he said the pickups were different though. I thought, both being the same year and model, that they would have the same pickups. Is it because during the early 50's the pickups were hand-wound, therefor each pickup was never an exact copy of the last? Not sure what he means that's all.
:D

Pretty much each body and neck shape, and pickup was its own unique creation. No two are identicle. As to pickup hights - different pickups sound better, or worse, depending how close they are to the strings. There are adjustment screws on either side of each pickup to raise and lower them.

I learned this first hand with my '75 Strat. the neck pickup on this guitar is particularly strong. Having the pickup too close to the strings caused the magnets to pull on the strings, preventing them from vibrating properly. whenever I tried to play up around the 12th or 14th fret, the sound would be very "worbly." In the end, I lowered the both sides of the pickup (the bass side of the pickup almost flush with body). The guitar sounds amazing now. (check out the video I posted earleir in this thread).

I hope this helps.

May I ask you which effects did you use in the loop, if any? (Delay, compression...)
Do they contribute a lot to the overall sound?
Alberto

I used a very soft adjusted compressor- and a delay-plugin for playback #1 and #2, for #3 a reverb-plugin in the mix chain. No additional EQ. The main sound factor are -no doubt about it- the guitars. :D

Here's a quick video of the '75 Strat. I'm not really playing anything, just going through the pickup selections.

When I was younger I always wanted to have a Stratocaster with the colors like yours and because of the sound starting in your video at 15sec. However it took me many years until I finally got one. :)

I was going to suggest the same thing :) would you be able to do a little demo, mbafmike ?

Ay, ay... you guys work with pressure! LOL

Unfortunately Fender guitars like these do not grow on trees, but I will do my best to come up with a vintage vs. masterbuilt 20xx comparison in the foreseeable future. :o

I would love to see an original 1954, compared to a 2004 mb 50th anniv. 54', then to a new 60th anniv. 54' AVRS.

That would be nice and would be open minding too. Those guitars are rare indeed, but so is someone like you who has the fortune to play them, has very good playing skills and is keen to share his nice work. Not so common I believe, thanks again.
Therefore, a similar side by side comparison would be very interesting and open minding!

That was some tasty playing there and thanks for backing up what I've been saying all along, that there are maple neck Strats that sound mellow and also there those that have a very prominent treble response.People have been saying for years that rosewood Strats are more mellow than maple neck Strats and I have insisted that I own Strats that dispel this myth in the biggest kind of way.I've also been saying that in every era of the Strats evolution there have been Strats that sounded quite different from each other, yet still had the unmistakable Strat tone.

You are incredibly lucky to have been able to play 2 rare pieces of guitar history on the same day.Cheers.

OK! :P It took me some time, but today I will be finally able to make a video where I compare a Vintage 1961 Stratocaster with a 2004 Masterbuilt/Custom Shop Strat, both in Seafoam Green! :D So give me a day or two until the video is ready.
