I own a 1982 Am. Std. Its been my main axe since "84". Recently I was looking through the 50 yr. anniversary Strat book trying to identify a pic of mine. To this day haven't seen one like it. My guitar has the small head stock, whats odd is the "STRATOCASTER" logo is in bold print like you will see on the larger head stock of the 70's. Does this fit the description of anyones out there? :?

Since hwy isn't here I'll answer for you.

It was made in 82 or 83 at the Fullerton plant. This is before they started making the Am standard. It's a CBS era stratocaster. Back then CBS was using spare parts, leftover anythings just to save a few bucks. So it's not that unusual to find a 70's decal on a later neck. Theres all sorts of inconsistencies from that era. This is the period of Fenders worst quality control. That doesn't mean your guitar is crap, just that they made a lot of bad guitars back then. Values of strats from that era are generally lower.

Be proud of your mutt, It still retains a certain level of "cool" even though CBS was out to screw Fender [/i]AND the American public at the same time!!
