Hello my name is Chris and I have been playing on and off for 20 years. I have several guitars but have allways wanted a Strat so i bought a 08 standard hss wine colored strat. The guitar is awsome looking and and after setting it up plays great.

I ordered the guitar online so it was new in the box and the set up was horrible from the factory, I bought the other two guitars that I own online and they were also new but both played great out of the box. Those are a ESP Kamikaze1 and Ibanez RG 1570. I know they cost a ton more but I would have thought fender would be in th same ball park.

I may be just one of those deals but I was really wanting to know if others have got the MIM strat and found it not to be playable from the factory.

It's not Fender's fault, but the shops fault that the guitar isn't set up well. Shops are supposed to do setups, etc. before their guitars leave the door, so I wouldn't blame it on the manufacturer.

..And anyways, Fender does a set up on every guitar before it leaves the factory.

I got it from Musicians Friend and it was sealed in plastic from the factory, so you are saying that they should have taken it out and done a set up? But anyway im not upset I love this thing and kinda nice no one touched it :)

reminds me of when I bought a Rickenbacker. I bought it before the store probably new they even had it and it was set up horrilbly but I immediatly took it to my tech guy and he set it up nicely and there was a good feeling kowing I was the only one to play it since it left the factory. But if it were not for a good tech I wouldn't have kept it ..the action was way high and it had some other minor problems. But I'm talking about a fish of another color...enjoy that new Strat

I just bought a Fender Deluxe Players Strat from Sweetwater Guitar. I talked to their sales rep Rober Williams several times to narrow down the model that fit my needs. I bet Robert spent at least two hours on the phone with me over the course of a couple of weeks. Sweetwater has an internal review process befor they ship a guitar. Eash guitar goes through a 50 plus check before it is shipped. The guitar is checked to make sure every thing works and meets factory specks. They even ship a bag of candy with your purchase. They called me when I submitted my on line question to them and they called after I received my guitar to see if I was happy with it. The customer service is outstanding. I have always been afraid to purchase a guitar I have never played but my experience with Sweetwater was great and I would not hesitate to purchase from them again.

In Fender's defense, most guitar manufacturers only do a rough setup on their guitars. Precise setups are time consuming and would increase costs. Considering that most guitar players take their new guitars in to be setup the way they want it, it's kind of a waste of time to setup a guitar perfectly at the factory. Most shops do make sure the setup is fairly good, Sweetwater as mentioned does a nice job at this. Musicians Friend doesn't do anything.

I bought a '72 Fender Thinline (not a strat, I know-but MIM). The bridge saddles were slanted sideways, almost at a 45 degree angle. And the strings were set, way to high. I took out my auto feeler gauges and brought them back to factory settings. Other than that, the guitar itself is beautiful, and sounds really great.

The saddles are actually jacked that way for a reason.....it's a silly reason, but after really listening to one (My HWY 1 was set up this way)...

It's to give the low E and D strings (where it was more predominant on my saddles) that "twangy" sound.....which is very reminiscent of SRV.

Oh, you get the sound....but I had so much fret buzz above the 12th fret on those strings I set 'em back to where they're even at at a reasonable height.

I've been happy ever since...

That's interesting to know. I've since had a complete setup done by a luthier (Authorized Fender Service Center). It plays great now. He didn't put back that tilt on the saddle, though. Also.....this tele doesn't have the traditional saddles. It has the same kind of saddles of a strat. One for each string, and it has two humbuckers. So it really doesn't have that traditional Tele twang sort of sound. But I love the sound that it does have. That's why I bought this version. Guess I learn something new, everyday on this forum.
