My buddy owns a '54 Strat he bought from his uncle, he let me give the thing a whirl and it was...well, it was spectacular. Probably the best neck I've ever felt. Anyone of a modern Fender series that would have a similar shape and feel? I've got an '03 MIM that is thin as a $@!&#*, but an '01 that's almost '54 thick while having a different feel. Seems there's a lot of variance from year to year and I haven't played enough guitars to know what's what.

Old Fender are often the greatest guitar , neck is a matter of taste too and how is you hand .

I never understand why some people buy guitar on e-bay . You must try a guitar before.

One might think  the 60th Anniversary '54 American Vintage would be the one with original 1954 Stratocaster specs...
But:
1954 original: Neck backshape feel was a large rounded "D" style neck. The fingerboard had a 7.25" fingerboard radius with small (.078" wide) frets
60th Anni '54: Neck Shape: Vintage "C"; Fret Size: Vintage-Style ("Vintage" fretwire I know, what's Vintage Style?)

It's been my experience that necks from this period varried greatly depending on who was making the neck.

Ah, so basically unless I took measurements of my friend's neck and had one specially made by Stew Mac or All Parts, it might be tough to find something similar. That's unfortunate.

The positives count too; now you have a better understanding of what a neck, for you, should be.

Seek it Out! :D
