HI Everyone! This is my first post! and I'd like to say hi to everyone! So I bought this Stratocaster on ebay ,Made in Japan , serial number starts with a E838XXX , I know it was made around 84/87. I'm trying to find out exactly what tremolo system this baby has, 'cause I need to get me a tremolo bar! could it be made by Schaller, Kahler perhaps? any idea ?? Thanks in advance! Here's a link to the auction for pictures!

I can tell you what it is not, but not what it is.

It is not a Fender (made by Schaller) System 1 tremolo, usually fitted as standard to 80s Japanese Fenders. For example:

http://www.wammiworld.com/System%201.html

So. Is it a mid-80s MIJ on which someone has switched out the bridge? Or did Fender also use other types of trem on their Japanese guitars?

Is that a Floyd Rose or Floyd Rose copy?

Unless they made changes to the original guitar which would've been mentioned to me , I don't think MIJ were made with licenced Floyd rose tremolos were they? I know schaller tremolos do look a lot like the one I see on this guitar.

If I'm not mistaken 80's MIJ Strats came with a Floyd Rose or a Vintage style bridge.
Mine has a Vintage Style bridge.

Sounds like the answer then. I've seen 'em with that System 1 thing on, but if they also came as stock with Floyds then that's probably what this is.

If it's a Floyd there will be a part number stamped on it and your search for the right arm will follow from there.

Could it be one of these?

That's a Schaller trem, by the way.

The pics I have are very low res so I can't really zoom to have a better look. Curiosity is killing me. :x

So I emailed the guys from Floyd rose with pictures, here's what they told me:

"Look to be a kahler tremolo made back in the 80's"

We'll see once I get it.
