Thanks for reading. Just a quick question on the "real" differences between the 2014 1954 Standard and the 2013 American Standard I already have. Interested in the playability & sound differences mainly, as I can see the 1954 Annie has the gold trim & the vintage case.

I was looking at getting one of the 60th Anniv. versions if I'm going to hear/feel much difference. If not, will just get some new Mufflers for my Harley Road King Classic instead & have $1000 left over! :)

Thanks for any help you can offer with info!!

If you are asking abouty the '54 "replica" (not "Standard"), the differences are;
7.25 radius, '54 pups, 6 screw bridge, vintage style tuners, nitro finish, eight hole pick guard, traditional tone controls, special case.

If you are asking abouty the "Commemorative", which is closer to the "Standard" that you have, the differences are;
Compund radius fret board, '54 pups, special tuners, contoured heel, delta tone control, anniversary neck plate, anniversary badge on back of headstock, anniversary embrodered special sized tweed case.

If you are asking about the regular 2014 "Am Standard", no difference.

The '54 pups are quite different than the fat 50s.

I havew a 2012 Am Std, and the 2014 Commemorative, both are quite different in sound and feel.

Thanks for the info. To clarify, I'm speaking of the version called American Standard 60th Anniv. made in 2014 Street price $1499 about. (not the limited re-issue @ $2500 that is stated to be a near exact remake in fit/finish/detail of the original and only 1954 made total run).

So the big diff in sound is Fat 50's vs the '54 pups in what way. Brighter, darker, chimey, etc? Also, I guess I mistakenly thought the compound radius was on all the American Strats. Maybe just the American Deluxe.

Overall, do you like/love the new Commemorative 60th Anniv. or is it not that impressive?

Thanks again!!

That seems weird to hear it called the American Standard 60th Anniversary, when it is not an Am Std at all, it is really the Commemorative and unique, not quite an Am Std, not quite an Am Dlx. There are regular Am Std Strats made in 2014 (aren't there?), and the Commemorative is quite different.

The compound radius is on the Commemorative and Am Deluxe, not on the Am Std.

As to the pup differences, the '54s are cleaner and have a pop to them, tight response, very rich and articulate, beefy and sparkly, you might say touch sensitive, just wonderful pups. The Fat 50s have more of a growl, sort of a ceramic sound, but still very sparkly, also touch sensitive, and maybe better for distortion than the '54s.

I am thrilled with the Commemorative, looks, feel and sound. :D

I am also thrilled with my 2012 Am Std. :D

Not to challenge or create a disputed thread regarding terminology, however; the 60th Anniversary Commemorative, is listed by Fender under their "American Standard" series, as are the other two below (as examples). So it would seem Fender considers these variants within the American Standard series, which does seems conflicted. It might seem Fender would establish a special series category, if their intention was to distinguish these as other than Am Standards.

Yeah, weird. The last two are actually named "American Standard", the Commemorative is not. Those two can also be found under "Special Edition" (still named American Standards). The specs on the two Am Stds are correct for Am Std Strat, as well as the Am Std price.

I'll stick with the name that Fender gave it, the "60th Anniversary Commemorative Stratocaster". 8)

Looks like we have similar taste in Strats. I don't know if mine is a 2012 or 2013 w/ rosewood neck but it looks just like yours. I ordered the Commemerative (like in your photo too). Came in and I had 2nd thought on even opening it up. Dang it, I did and it is beautiful. From the special tuners (brushed gold & pearl rounds) to the sound of the pups. I will have to play both back & forth to see if I notice much diff. in the necks & pups. Better get them on the Fender Blues Deluxe cuz I just tried the new on thru my AC15 Vox. Sounded pretty "D" good to me. Liked the inside of the case too!!!

My mind says I don't need it, my heart says, "why not" it's your birth year!!
