I can basically pick up a new EJ Strat or a second hand Custom Shop Deluxe strat for around the same price. (CS will be around £150 to £300 higher)

Now these purchases would be off the internet with no opportunity to try before i buy.

I really like the sound of the EJ strat but have concerns as to fenders consistency . I assume custom shop will at least be a guaranteed statement of quality if i buy unseen. Are the custom shop deluxe also true custom shop made strats or a halfway house between standard strats and true custom shop orders

Some reviews however suggest that the EJ strat is of custom shop quality.

How true is this.

Check the neck .

EJ is a soft V shape 12 inches radius . V shape could be not for you

2014 Custom Shop Deluxe have large "V" with 9.5 radius . Which year the CS you want to buy ?

American Standard have a modern " C " shape neck . 9.5 radius ; Easy playing .

Look to me the Custom Shop is a more expensive guitar . Better deal if same price ?

I would never buy a guitar without playing it. Absolutely never. If you've got the £££ for an EJ Strat then you've got the money to drive to a Fender store, sit there for three hours (at least) trying the guitar. Then go home, think about it for at least a week, try some more guitars, think about it a while longer THEN buy the one you like best.

The latest Fender guitars are the most consitently well-made guitars on the market. They've been making them for 60 years, do not doubt for a moment Fender's ability to turn out high quality guitars because in that regard they are the best in the business.

The fact is you are asking for the impossible. You want people to tell you which guitar you will prefer. Until you sit down and play them you have absolutely no way of knowing.

I picked up an american 2010 standard on the weekend and love the feel of it. One of the nicest feeling necks and frets i have come across.

There is a 2013 one here

http://guitarvillage.uk.com/product/141 ... d-COA.aspx

cant find out anything else about it though.

I can get a new EJ strat from the States delivered with customs for around £1150.

or can buy this custom deluxe for £1600 (new ) or a second hand 2012 Custom deluxe for around £1200 to £1300

I have no concerns about the feel of the EJ neck - i own a les paul which has a 12 inch neck and a joe trohamn tele which also has a large 12 inch neck - the only size neck I cant get on with is a 7 1/2 ich radius neck

12 or 9.5 or 7"5 inches radius is one thing . "V" neck is another story . Gibson don't have "V" neck.

I would buy the American Standard you try .

Fender consistently make EJ Strats with necks that aren't that radius
