Hi guys,
I am wanting to upgrade my MIM strat. I love the middle pickup and hardly use the neck. The problem is the bridge. When I play clean, i always use the mid. After playing for awhile, I always end up turning the distortion up. I need more UMMPP, more crunch.

I have an EPI Les Paul with a 59 neck and JB bridge that I love, but the strat plays completely different. I can play faster and it begs me to play some 80s rock, but it lacks in sound. I am seriously looking at replacement, and I want to keep it single coil. Any experience with JB JR, Hotrails, or screamin demon? Like I mentioned the sound i want is 80s rcck (yes hairbands........Dokken, Whitesnake, ect. I know I know.....but i love it!!)

Thanks for the input!

In my country, Seymour Duncans still cheaper than DiMarzio and Fender pickups :D

When I had aftermarket pups in my strats (which was only until recently) my 2 favorites were the hot rail or the JB Jr. in the bridge by Seymour Duncan (If I'm not mistaken you can go to the site and get samples in terms of what they sound like.)

But....one thing about the JB Jr's....it's technically a humbucker...but it's also very hot...in fact, it's SO hot that it's very difficult to record with, particularly with Pro Tools and direct plug ins. (That was the one thing that sort of led me away from those pickups and going back to vintage, stock, and lower output pups on the Fenders I own.)

But if you're looking for a rock sound that will serve you well on that strat that's fairly balanced? For years I ran a hot rail in the bridge and a texas tone (seymour duncan) in the neck. They served me well, and should be able to deliver that crunch you're looking for.

Good luck! :)

Seymore Duncan has some Strat HB's in single coil format:

Hot Rail SHR-1 from Classic Rock till Heavy Rock

Little 59 SL59-1 from Country till Heay Rock

Duckbuckers SDBR-1 from Country till Classic Rock

George Lynch SLSD-1 from Classic Rock till Heay Rock

JB JR SJBJ-1 from Heavy Blues till Heavy Metal

Hot Stack STK-S2 from Country till Heay Rock

All pu's are passive ones.

Check em out on the SD site.

Cheers :D

There are lot of good one, depending on what you like. I've all three you mentioned...

Hot Rails: good, a bit high on the output (if you want that). Pretty versatile

Scream Demon: a bit to trebly and harsh sounding to me, compared to others.

JB Jr: very versatile, good tones and harmonics. this is what i have on my current main guitar (98 mia strat).

Lil 59's are very good. Close to the JB Jr to me, but a little thicker tone. This sounds a little more "humbucker-ish" if that's what you want.

Thanks for the input!!!

I have the JB Jr in the bridge of my 93 amer strat (sunburst). Before that, I had a pearly gates in the bridge of my 89 amer strat (black) that I changed out for a JB which is why I later put the JB jr in my 93.
Maybe I have become used to it but I like the JB jr in the bridge alot.

I have two new Fender® humbuckers and 2 single coils in my life now with the 2 NEW strats i am buying:
Humbuckers
Fender Diamondback™ - no info on fender web site
Fender DH-1™ - no info on fender web site

Single Coils
2 Hot Samarium Cobalt Noiseless™ Strat® Pickups (Middle/Neck) - no info on fender web site
2 Fender Tex Mex™ Strat® Pickups (Middle/Neck)

Also I have a specific question I posted here, but so far not one person has an answer lol...
maybe u can help...

That deluxe is a beauty. I'm so into strats, I've been thinking of getting a "nice" strat myself. I liked the Showmasters that were made in Korea(?), but they no longer make those and only do the CS versions now I believe. Beautiful guitars though. Let me know how you like that...

Correct me if I am wrong but I believe the Special Edition Lite Ash Stratocaster® is currently a -Made in Korea- guitar.
You can read here in the forum saying good things about it.
I am partial to made in usa for the most part but I do like the MiM stuff thats out these days too. I love strats!

i'm thinking about putting the JB Jr in the bridge position of my strat, because the bridge pickup in there now doesn't sound very good...is the pickup alot more high output than the originals. because i don't wanna have one pickup alot louder than the others

Those are also a humbucker. It seems that most guys who install them, love them. They sound like a very mid heavy Strat pup to me. There are sound clips on Carvins website.
