I just wanted to see if I could post a link for a video of my '75 Strat. It's not very long, but it gives the viewer an idea of the guitar's tonal qualities.

Sounds like a good Strat should, lots of pop, spank, and chime! Most definitely a nice guitar!

I've played lots of Strat, and each sounds different. For my ears, this one sounds like what a vintage Strat should sound like. Thoughts?

Oh yeah... Old School Vintage Strat tone in spades 8)
Very nice sounding Guit-Fiddle...

For the sake of Tone comparison.. this is my '62 AVRI... It has a custom set of Reed James pups made to the specs of the late 50's strat pickups... gary bottoms.. period correct pole mags, pull back wire, blah blah... completely Old School. Body's Ash... take a listen.. Your Strat sounds very similar IMO

The pups def make a difference... figure those are stock pups? Curious... the body wood... can't see too well in the vid but, looks like it may be an Alder body Sunburst... Do you know if it's Alder... or Ash?

Thanks for sharing the video. The pups are stock and the body is Ash. I onced a really old guitarist once, "What makes the tonal difference?" He said, "Everything!"

Funny thing about those pups. The neck pups is actually one from '74. I asked my luthier about that and he tells me that transitions of parts could take up to 2 yrs depending on how much stock they have left over. I've seen this sort things before with pickguards and knobs and stuff, but not pups. They are a great set of sounding pups.

Im had to trade my 50th Anniversary American Series Strat and PRS McCarty for this guitar. I also own a '79 Strat that's SRV battered and a blonde '76. The '79 is being rebuilt due to water damage. It has a special pot that allows me to use the neck and bridge pup at the same time.

The '76 sounds really good, too. It got a big old round maple neck. The biggest necked Strat I've ever played.

My '75 has one pickup from '74...it's all good...

And great guitar sounds, oddly, the Strats of those years did not have a good reputation, it seems here in europe.
They are found in second hand for € 1300, many complain of significant weight. :?:

Many of the guitars of this era are awful, and some are good. Main problem I've seen has been in the neck joint, the bridge saddles, thick finishes and noisy, microphonic pickups.

Microphonic pickups are not the end of the world. This guitar has them, but I've compensated for that.

Neck joints can be shimmed and saddles replaced.

As to thick paint, I avoid '70s Strat with solid colors. I had a '77 black Strat that sounded awful. I bought it through the mail while I was deployed. Also, it was a hard tail Strat, which sound more like Telecasters than Strats to me.

I think the strat of those years were randomly construction, good and bad things of interest or to try before purchase.
The sublime is your dear Paris!

Yeah the one I had was a 76 and it was the victim of my learning to work on guitars lol. I drilled the peghead and installed my own schallers on it and routed it and installed the Dimarzio Super Distortion in the bridge. I ended up having to to take to the local shop to get help wiring and mounting it. His first response was "what have you done"?

Many people dont know that Leo was responsable for the larger peghead and three bolt neck system with micro tilt. It would be his last contributions to the Stratocaster.

This book and DVD are my favorite.

My favorite part is the 70's Stratocaster part of the DVD

They get some specs wrong on modern models in the book but the guided tour through the Fender Museum on the DVD is amazing.
