I've always wanted an electric 12 string and am considering converting an old strat body that's currently doing nothing. I've seen 12 string necks available but I don't know which bridge I should use. And I'm sure there are other pitfalls I haven't considered so if anyone has any advice id really appreciate it.

Fender had a "Special Edition" Strat that was a 12 string back in 2010. Contact Fender... perhaps they sell the bridge for those as an accessory item.

Is the body a hard tail?
I don't think any 12 string trem bridges are available, so converting a non-trem would be much easier.

Gotoh make a very good adjustable and individually intonable 12-string bridge. ABM make an excellent 12-string bridge but the price is accordingly high.

Well we've seen the Pawn Shop series bringing the Bass VI back from the dead, surely there's a market for a resurrection of the 12 string Strat (or Tele!) in some form or other.

I've seen the gotoh one. As far as I know there is no trem bridge available so it could be tricky but I'm willing to try. It is after all a MIK squier body so not worth keeping original.

I did a fair bit of research into the possibility of building a Strat XII and came to the conclusion that the best option was a custom build from Warmoth. The problem with adapting an existing body is that you would need to fill in the trem cavity to support the 12 string bridge, then drill string holes. Warmoth offer a Strat body pre-drilled for the Gotoh bridge and they make a very nice 12 string neck.

My own 12 string project is cancelled as I bought the Boss GP-10 processor which can do a really good 12 string simulation by individually transposing and detuning the strings. Really I'd recommend this as a good substitute.

I was planning on using a warmoth neck, unless a hockey stick neck turns up on eBay :-) I'm pretty confident that I could fill the cavity successfully so that it would have the strength to anchor the fixed bridge.
